Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrho ho hooooo! (so, so sorry)

Hi! How are you guys? I don’t have much today because a) who does on December 19th and b) . . . I forgot what I was saying.

But! What I’d love today is to know what your Christmas traditions are. What does Christmas EVE and Christmas DAY normally look like to you? And this is important because I feel like the weather should definitely play a role. It sets a tone. It creates a vibe. It’s uncontrollable and you lean into whatever the hell Mama Nay Nay gives you. I say all this because you guys, it’s going to be SEVENTY DEGREES here in Kansas City on Christmas Day. 69 on eve and 70 on day. Might change of course, but like – what. WHAT.

It’s okay because we’re going to get into it. Have the doors and windows open instead. Maybe even eat lunch outside. Day drink on the back patio with Christmas music on. Because why not!

ALSO you know what plays into this year’s Christmas Day. Duh, Stranger Things Volume Two. That changes the entiiiiiiiiire vibe. But I’m into it! I think we’re going to honestly abandon the red wine meat stew thing and just make demogorgon-shaped pizzas. Hahahaha!

Really though.

Are you all into Stranger Things? I have such a crush on Vecna.

Sorry! Henry. But also Vecna. How they made a monster attractive I’ll never know. That slow walk with the curled up longer fingers – stop it. We’re all pumped to see how this all ends up(side down).

I also have a crush on Steve and it drives Natalie CRAZY when I gush about him. “He’s so cute! That hair!”

“MOM, gross. Stop it.”

I give it a year before she’s on my side.

My point is, 70 degrees and three new episodes? Get out. We have to change it up. Yes we’ll watch It’s a Wonderful Life and eat The Family Stone strata and open gifts in pjs with coffee – of course of course. But I feel like late morning hits and our soul fairies just may guide us in a wild direction.

Also, who do you think will die in the finale?! I need all theories in the comments.

AND your Christmas traditions. Need it all. Today and now. Stat!

But I’m not bossy.

Weekend plans?!

We have some movie watching, some babka to make, champagne to sip, a MIL to host, a soccer game tomorrow night, a Christmas party Sunday night, a new dishwasher arriving on Saturday (don’t even ASK I just cannot omg) and some reading to do. I’m in coast mode is what I’m saying. Everything is done and wrapped and I just need to breathe. It’s all okay. It is.

Okay, Stranger Things predictions and Christmas traditions – go!

But like, at your pace…

(for the very very very last-minute shoppers – here’s a gift guide for bread bakers and lovers, one for makeup, and one for all things cozy. hope it helps!)

I loved your gift guides this year! I’m in Fort Smith Arkansas, so it’s also going to be very warm here. We usually just play some games or watch some Christmas movies on Christmas Eve. Then Christmas morning we open presents and slowly get ready for the day. Then we head to my parents and hang out over there with more family and just Play more games and eat sandwiches (because everyone’s completely over the cooking by that point).

Love this!- bc B) Forgot what I was saying! lol I feel like everyone is baffled by this point in December and just holding on by a red or green thread...mine is black bc NYC ;) We will be doing the usual and much awaited quiet xmas for our little family of 4 with "nada for navidad" ~old movies, homemade vegan monkey bread, pizzas, crudites and fruits and mayyyybe a walk outside in the still cold mid 40 degrees we are expecting. Wishing everyone a lovely holiday however you spend it, with whomever you're with, and wherever you are... you are not alone and loved!

We’re skipping our usual traditions and heading to Disneyland for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I can’t wait to relax and let someone else handle all the magic ✨

My family's tradition: Blow the roof off Christmas eve with a huge party - so fun. Christmas day - all goes quiet, jammies, music, movies, simple foods, naps. It's fabulous. I loved your Christmas Guides this year. I picked up some things from the bread-maker selections (Merry Christmas to me) and the hanging baskets for gifts. They've arrived, I love them - so now I need a set for myself. Thank you - and Merry Christmas!

Oh gosh, I don't even want to think about who might die. But Bev, I swim in Gladstone, and there is a lifeguard who reminds me of Billy!!!! Except that I think Billy took his job more seriously than this guy, who has looked bored to tears the two times I've seen him guarding. Yikes!!!

Now you know I did a commercial with Will and Dustin before season 2 premiered because folks found out I was a super fan of the show. The way I squealed when I read this. Had NO clue you were a fan and equally more surprised you have a thing for Vecna… can we explore this a bit more? Lie down on my couch lol Are you also a fan of Steve’s music? I was this years old when I learned he’s the singer behind “End of Beginning” and my jaw hit the floor. I love that song so much. Mmm! Welcome to an LA-like Christmas. We always do Chinese food for dinner on Christmas night… a little nod to one of the best Christmas movies to ever movie.
