Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreh! Er! Ur! Day!

I have the craziest story for you.

A few weeks ago I was having lunch at my friend’s house. (Egg salad on milk bread to be exact. This has nothing to do with the story but you need the visual. This is who I am.) She and her family have just moved into their new home (after two years of renovating. TWO YEARS!) so she was giving me the tour. And while we were downstairs in her basement next to their home gym, we were paused in the hallway chatting. Well, I noticed something on her right ear and it completely halted my attention to whatever she was talking about (a barre pole? a TV on that one wall? I don’t know.) because WHAT is that on her ear.

I told myself to keep listening to her and do not get distracted and bring it up later when the time was right. It looked like maybe she’d gone into the woods and tiiiiiiiny little tick babies crawled all over her ear and were hatching into her cartilage. Like, WHAT IS ON HER EAR.

So of course I forgot to bring it up. And we ate lunch (the egg salad and milk bread that I mentioned), and talked about books with her daughter, and played a cute little game (more on that in a bit) and just caught up. AS I WAS LEAVING I remembered because I noticed them again! I go, “Hey, I’m sorry, I’m listening to you, but there are these tiny dots on your right ear and in case you don’t know what they ar-“ She goes, “Oh yeah! They’re ear seeds!”

. . . ear seeds?

EAR SEEDS? And that was best, most hilarious moment of my life.

EAR SEEDS??!!?! She was like, “Yeah, my acupuncturist places these tiny ear seeds in my ears and I can press on them during the day and the lights will dim.”

Just kidding, she didn’t say that. BUT – you can press on them to relieve pain in certain areas of your body. Isn’t that wild? I asked her if she could tell a difference and she said probably not. Hahahaha! I don’t even care. Ear seeds!!! And you can apparently move them around and from ear to ear to target different problem areas. Er, stressed areas. I find it so fascinating. And a bit woo-woo but also totally in.

She’s not being eaten alive by baby ticks. Whew!

EAR SEEDS.

Okay I have to tell you right here and right now that I have not finished Atmosphere yet. I loooo-hoooooove it. I’m about halfway through. But this past week was banana town and aside from not having the time to read much, I didn’t make the time to read much. Why you ask? Because during most of my downtime, Aaron and I watched . . . Murder, She Wrote.

Hahahahahha!!!

LISTEN TO THIS, he discovered a TV channel that airs Murder, She Wrote all the time. All the time! So we’ve been watching an episode or two every other night to wind down. And it is giving me so much joy. Oh, Jessica Fletcher! Why is she so amazing? It’s her short, bouncy hairstyle, I’m sure of it. The show itself is corny as hell, but also SO GOOD. And it gives all the analog nostalgia that we Gen X-ers crave. The opening credits with the familiar little jaunty piano tune and the soft while vignettes, hahaha! I cannot get enough.

So today I’m going to shoot and post a Book Tasting of a book I read last summer that’s still wildly popular, so stay tuned for that. Atmosphere is now next Friday. Boo! But I’m still a good person.

Aso ear seeds.

Natalie and I watched My Girl earlier this summer and she told me that I remind her of Vada. Vada Sultenfuss. The 11-year old girl star next to Kevin McAllister. I mean Thomas.

“I REMIND YOU OF VADA?” I said with my jaw on my feet.

“Yeah! Something about her jeans and tucked-in shirt.”

Well well well, I’ve succeeded in my fashion choices, you guys. I can retire now.

Maybe I’ll start dressing like Jessica Fletcher, hahahah!

Fifty IS coming.

Weekend plans?

I have a coffee date this morning (with a local extra-virgin olive oil brand – hopefully some fun to come from that!) and some home and yard catchup to tend to. Nat wants to do this whole Seven Things for Seventh Grade trend with me tomorrow. Which just means she wants gifts. Hmmmm, I see how this is. Maybe I’ll get her EAR SEEDS. Hahahahah! I’ll never stop laughing.

So the job update – nothing concrete. I have different ideas of how I’d like to spend my creative energy, and four meetings this month to lay it all there. I don’t want to jinx anything, so I’ll keep it private for now. We’ll see how it all unfolds! And school starts next Wednesday, so this is the very last week of summer for these kids before the school and sports grind really kicks in. I might need my own ear seeds to calm myself the hell down! Or however that works. In the meantime, you still get me, HA! Oh.

I did post an August mixtape for you yesterday. Peep that. It’s vibey. It’s good.

Okay tell me what’s for dinner tonight. And also do you have ear seeds on your ears? Obsessed.

Yaaay for Friday Floatsam. My heart is happy. My acupuncturist gives me ear seeds, in pearls, gold, or rhinestone. I always choose the bling! Hope your meetings go well and it helps bring clarity to your next steps.

When a friend of mine was trying to get pregnant, her acupuncturist did ear seeds on her. It is a weird visual, and who knows it if actually works. As for dinner tonight, it'll probably be the last bites of mac and cheese I made the other day as I run out the door for a last minute decision to see Counting Crows at the Hollywood Bowl.

Oh my gosh Murder She Wrote yes!!!! I found that channel this early summer when I had a knee injury and couldn't do anything but lay in bed. I introduced my 14 yo to Jessica and we spent hours watching old episodes. Her house is the coziest!

What happened to Gilmore Girls? Weren’t you & Nat watching that together? You probably finished it or Netflix finished it for you (ha!) and already talked about it. I’m always late to the party! Good luck with your meetings!!

I had to laugh at the ear seeds story! I’d never heard of them before, and I can totally understand why you thought they were tiny ticks at first. 😂 Also, Murder, She Wrote sounds like such a cozy way to spend the evening. Now I’m curious to give it a watch!
