Monthly Mixtape: Zuzu’s Petals and Eggnog

HO HO HOOOO! (I’m not calling you that. I’m just saying it because Christmasti- never mind.)

Weeeell, the madness has arrived, you guys. And I want to know how you feel about it! Are you the type of person that’s like, “Seriously, can we just get through this already?” Or do you decorate your own body with tinsel and string popcorn and walk around with crazy eyes like the dudes in the Black Hole Sun video? I’m putting money on the latter.

I’m actually sort of a mix. I do get giddy about Christmastime, with all the classic old movies, the vintage blow-up decorations in small-town front yards, the CAROLERS (I love a good caroler. I always want to carol, but no one ever asks me. hmmm), and obviously the twinkle lights galore. But on the flip side, I’ll be the first to admit that this season can be tooooow UP.

And I have to be honest, I struggled with this mixtape. In the beginning, I wanted to keep it away from Christmas music entirely, and focus on fun festive-y songs that didn’t make you want to stab a baby sloth.

BUT.

The more I thought about it, and my own personal head space wrap-around of this month (<–do what?), I decided that instead of “making it through Christmas, “or “surviving the holidays,” I’m going to do the opposite. I’m going to brush the stress under an invisible rug (because you know my husband’s irrational hatred for them), and soak.it.up. I have toddlers, man! This is the perfect time to go balls in and just do it.

But I’m not putting tinsel on my body.

Maybe.

So, this mix is exactly the way I feel about Christmas. It’s a solid balance of classic, festive, a splash of new, a bit of nostalgia, and good old fashioned choral music. (Don’t roll your eyes. You’ll dig it. It may or may not be from Home Alone.)
