Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrar! Dar! Flar! Sar!

I really don’t have much for you today. This week, on the contrary, has felt so nice. I’ve kept busy and steady in a rhythm that just works for me. Is my basement dry? Not after the rain we got. Is that okay? We’ll get there. It’s better, but not perfect. And I’m rolling with it.

I told myself on Monday not to get overwhelmed. To keep my head down and minimize what I had to get done, and maximize what I wanted to get done. It was amazing! The yards look incredible and my bird bath is cleaned and filled and everything is so green and fragrant I just had to be a part of it! (<–name that movie.)

We’re in this tiny lull right now between visits and activities and the rest of the elementary school madness that’s to come. (which starts on Monday) I’m trying to just . . . be in it. Mary Oliver style.

And then, it’s summer! *takes deep breath*

How are you hanging in there? Or are you?

Okay, who here thinks I could add some slight goldish/blondish tints to my hair? Just very low-level highlights here and there. From a box. With a comb. And gloves. I can do this, right? I’m not spending a billion dollars at the salon (I actually haven’t been in two entire years) so I feel like I can continue the streak! *no pun

This can happen. I know it can. But I need your input on like, a brand. The kit. The box. My hair is light brown/dark blonde. Darker up top. Which we have to change. I need a shimmer! A slight barely-there goldish shimmer. Something that says, “This mom can handle summer at home with her middle schoolers!” Maybe we’ll add cigarettes to that order.

Just KIDDING, mom.

Maybe.

You guys suggest some good at-home hair kits! I’m all ears. And hairs.

Weekend plans?

I have a new Book Tasting episode coming to you later today! Just need to finish the book, shop for it, film it, edit it and post it. Ha! I need to scoot actually. We have a soccer tourney this weekend (Nat’s a guest player!), and I’m having some lovely humans over tomorrow afternoon for marinated tomatoes and pimento cheese and wine. Going to be a beautiful day. Window boxes on Mother’s Day afternoon and mimosas. The end.

I did post this OUTSTANDINGLY delicious Tuscan Tuna Salad with White Beans yesterday. It’s so good. Seriously so good. You’ll eat it for five months straight. And the video!

Okay hair kits – we can do this!

I think.

So, Bev finally posted that Tuscan Tuna Salad recipe yesterday she'd been hinting at, right? And she's totally brave thinking about a DIY hair tint with a box kit for 'slight goldish/blondish tints'-I mean, wow, that's some confidence without needing free motion control for a fancy video tutorial, huh? I was just scrolling through this on my commute and thought, maybe I should try that tuna salad after soccer practice this weekend, if I can find the time!

This was such a fun read from start to finish. I like how it feels casual and personal instead of overly polished. I ended up here after playing wordle-deutsch and stayed longer than I expected because the post was genuinely interesting.

I always enjoy posts like this because they feel so random in the best way possible. There’s something relaxing about scrolling through different little thoughts and finds while taking a break with wordle fi during the day.

That 'minimize what I had to get done, maximize what I wanted to get done' mindset resonated with me—it's amazing how much lighter a week feels when you give yourself permission to focus on what you actually want to do. I recently started using https://www.freeailist.org to find free AI tools that handle small tasks, freeing up more time for the things I actually want to do.

Thanks for putting this together. I've been using Wan 3.0 for a few projects and the quality has been consistently good across different types of content.

That rhythm of minimizing obligations to maximize joy really resonated with me, especially after a week of yard work like yours. I find that a few minutes of free asmr helps me ease into that same present state you described.
