Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrreeeeeeeeennnnnnddeeeeeeeennnnnnnd!

We have nothing this weekend. (!!)

No plans. Nothing. Nada. At all. Zip. Zilch. No soccer. No football. NERTHRIN.

Which means I plan to fill it up immediately. Ha! Oh.

But in the ways that *I* want to. And one of those things I need your help on, because we’re going to brainstorm our Thanksgiving pie situation. I have a great cookbook on pies, and plan to sit and peruse that this weekend with a cup of coffee. Last year I made the salted cardamom pie and it was MAGICAL. I may do that again. But I also want to know what your pie plans are so that I can copy you. See how we’re such a good team?! …hello?

But really, are we going a pumpkin route? A chocolate something or other? Pecans? What’s the vibe, you guys? What are we doing?

Also I need to take a poll, because people are vvvvvv serious about this. And that is:

When do you put up Christmas? Nov 1st? Day after Thanksgiving? Just when you can get to it? Who cares pass me that bottle of wine?

No wrong answers here! I’m a firm right-after-Thanksgiving girlie, but I also appreciate the enthusiasm and borderline psychotic spirit from others when they get it all up like yesterday. You guys, there are houses on my street with lights up! Have to admit, it’s all very glowy and beautiful because the trees are still colorful and vibrant (we’re peaking later this year due to our August/September weather), so to see the trees glowing above the lights – wow. Stunning.

Anyway I need a life and would love to know when you get your decor up. And what your pie is going to be for Thanksgiving. And if it’s cold or warm where you are. And what you’re reading this weekend.

Weekend plans? (yes this is short today)

I mentioned we have nothing, right? NOTHING. Bliss. That SAID, my friend Erin is coming over today (while the kids are at school) and we’re going to watch Stepmom! This is very exciting. I’ll report back later today on thoughts. Erin has seen it, I have not. Please don’t throw your laptop in a river.

I’ll finish Nightwatching (OMG) and work on a fun little bathroom craft, which sounds gross but you’ll see. Might make my fire cider. Bring the plants in. Prep for the Sunday freeze. Make tacos. Have a fire. Keep it all cozy and plan free. Obsessed.

Oh – I did post this Creamy Slow Cooker Chicken Chili that you should deeefinitely make for the Sunday freeze. It’s heaven. So simple. And the how-to video for it!

Okay, pies, baby. What’s our plan??

We get our tree on the Friday after Thanksgiving!! This year, I’m planning on making a Chocolate Buttermilk Pound Cake and/or maybe a French Apple Cake. We usually keep it simple with a pecan pie and maybe pumpkin.

Ok! So decor is going up next weekend to have a beautifully lit and cozy holiday home for Thanksgiving guests! We always have a cinnamon bun crust apple pie with french vanilla ice cream and it makes the best brunch addition the following day...if there are leftovers to spare!

I did pies last year so I might do a cake or pumpkin cheesecake this year. I believe in keeping holiday decorations within the month of said holiday, so nothing Christmas related appears until after December 1st. I like Thanksgiving/autumn to have it's moment. We seld have weekend plans( we're not popular!😆) so some bulb planting and tidying is all I've got!

Carmel Pecan Pie is on the list every year, after that it's at least one fruit pie and whatever else I am feeling. I like pumpkin but I don't always make one. Christmas...ugh. I am in the whenever I get to it camp, which is usually about mid December. But I also believe Christmas starts on Christmas DAY and keep my tree up until the Epiphany. Society has it all wrong thanks to retail! We drove by Bass Pro this week and it looked like Christmas threw up everywhere, its was crazy. Enjoy your slow weekend!

I made that pie last year and it was incredible. I also made you chili yesterday and it was huge hit. One daughter actually rolled her eyes in delight. Tree is usually put up Thanksgiving weekend but we may do it a little early this year.

We go out of state to see family for Thanksgiving, so we put up Christmas the weekend before. That way we come home to it after the Thanksgiving holiday.

"Inside Christmas" goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving. "Outside Christmas" goes up around the same time - or on the warmest day possible in that timeframe. I refuse to stand outside and hang lights when I can't feel my fingers and/or toes. Pie - We'll do several: sweet potato pie using my home grown sweet 'taters (don't under estimate this one) and a Kentucky Derby Pie - which my very adult children still beg for.

We get real trees every year thanksgiving weekend because that’s when our out of town (KC!) kids are here. Otherwise id do a little later as the trees are sometimes a little dead and crunchy by Christmas Day! Sadly my family rebels if I stray from tradition so it’s pumpkin and Dutch apple every year!
