Friday Flotsam

FRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAH. der.

Okay PLEASE someone tell me that this Solawave thing is full of bull.

It has to be. That honestly cannot be doing what it says it’s doing. Is it?

Now, I’m a total believer in skin care. From minimal water splashing and moisturizing to lying on a bed with goggles and laser zapping, I’m in. But this just seems too good to be true. And I’m seeing ads for it e v e r y w h e e e e e e e e e e e r e. IT IS AFTER ME.

If it is legit, well then I’m all over it. But someone help me see the light (haha) before I add to cart. Do NOT let me add to cart.

Is it bull honky?

It’s bull honky.

Is it?

Do you plan out your holiday movie watching? Like, by emotional priority?

What do you save for the week of Christmas?

I’m trying to figure out when to watch The Family Stone. Because that one is 100% mandatory, and I’m trying to nail down its time. Because I need wine with it. Because I cry. A lot. But also I go to bed when the kids do at 8pm like an 85 year old, so when will this happen for my life?

Tonight we’re watching the Kacey Musgrave’s Christmas Show. It’s the perfect almost-mid December special to watch while we string cranberries for the tree. (special? what am I, 85 years old? oh wait, yes.) It is so fun. SO fun. Sparkly, kid-friendly, adult-friendly, funny, sort of vintage in a way? I love it. Watch it.

But when to watch Diane? Today? This morning? Now?

Never mind.

I got today’s Wordle on the second try. Just needed that to exist somewhere.

Your tree! We need to talk.

Is it real? Is it fake? Do you have strong opinions about either?

Ours is definitely artificial. Would you believe I’ve never, as an adult, had a real tree? Does this make me a life poser? I know at SOME point Will and Nat will want to pick out a tree. And we’ll do it. But I’ve just never really had a strong opinion on either way. Which is surprising to even myself because I romanticize lit-rally everything down to shopping for toilet paper.

I will say, this is the last year with our current tree. I’ve loved it dearly for about 12 years but 87% of the lights are out, and it’s started to look super jank over the years. So we’ll have a decision to make.

YOU GUYS, UPDATE. OMG. (Yes, in the last three seconds. This is my life.)

Just talked to Aaron and we’re trying a real tree next year. We’re doing it! Which gives me plenty of time of research balsam vs. fir. vs. spruce vs. pine vs. all the other evergreen words.

Thanks for being there for me.

Weekend plans?

Besides a lunch date at French Market today and a basketball game on Sunday, it’s blissfully low key! We have Part Two of the Great Basement Purge tomorrow, and I realllllllllyyyyyy need to deep clean the freezer before the slew of rotating holiday guests. But other than that, I plan on finishing Lovelight Farms (SO yummy) and starting Always in December. For which I hear I’ll need to buy stock in Kleenex. Obviously so in.

From this week::: Potato, Leek and Gruyere Pie! UM, to die for. And the video for it! And then we have the CHRISTMAS TREE FOCACCIA all caps necessary. Don’t hesitate for one second. Here’s the video!

Okay, Solabunk. Is it . . . actually legit?

That light thingy has to be fake news Artificial tree, live one is work, I don’t need that. Watering it, worry if it will last. I put my tree up thanksgiving week.

Diane is mandatory Christmas Eve viewing, every year without fail. I put her on and stuff stockings and do general Christmas morning and breakfast prep (but of course the strata will already have been soaking in the fridge for several hours by that point, I’m not a monster). I have a good cry over the scene of all of them in bed while Judy Garland sings, and then I feel like Christmas can come.

We have always had a real tree. After years of trying different types we settled on Frasier Fir. Soft needles, beautiful shape and smell heavenly like citrus. We have never been disappointed.

Movie timing is a priority. We start with the easy light-hearted ones and always watch It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve. Have to get the tears out before Christmas Morning! Real tree all the way, never had a fake one in my 41 years and never will. If you can find a Noble Fir, get one. They are amazing!
