Monthly Mixtape: When Can We Go To A Concert Again?

I am embarrassingly late with this month’s mixtape, but – better late than never! Right?

Hello?

. . . anyone?

The even more embarrassing thing is that I started this playlist back in early-to-mid March. We had a nice sunny warm day and were sitting out back on the patio, reminiscing about going to shows, big or small, hearing the crowds roar, feeling the energy of humans either filling a concert hall or huddled over candlelit tables in an intimate setting, spilling wine all over my shoes. Ya know.

LIVE MUSIC. There’s just something wondrous about it. This last weekend Aaron and I went to French Market, sat at the bar (indoors!) and listened to a string trio and it was absolute splendor. I’d completely forgotten what it was like to sit near other people, feel the energy of a bustling cafe, linger over a third glass of Sancerre while chitchatting with the bartender. Being vaccinating is ruling my face, holy cow.

So! I made an ALL-LIVE-MUSIC mixtape for you. Yes, a lot of it is from the ’90s because that’s just the way it is. A bit of indie, a splash of hip hop, some folk, it’s all there. Some of these crowds are giant, and some you can’t even hear at all. But everything in this playlist is a live recording. This is the mixtape that will carry us over to the days when we can see more live music again. Plus it’s April so everything is coming to LIFE. Hahaha. Get it?

Never mind.

I give you, the “When Can We Go To a Concert Again?” Mix.

How’s your April going? No really, tell me.

I LOVE your monthly mix tapes! They give me life. I’m a CPA and have been chained to my desk for the past few months, which has felt like 87 years. Listening to you mr mix tapes has been a bright spot. Thank you!

You are so right. One of the things I have missed the most is live music here in KC. I can't wait to go to Knuckleheads (had tickets for one tonight as a matter of fact but it got moved to November), Crossroads, BB's. Oh the joys in our near future! Thanks for the playlist!

You seem to have No Clue what those of us in the *real* work force live through. I have certainly taken needed solace during *these* times in your lovely perfect life posts. I haven't stopped going to work EVER since this whole shit storm started. I can't even imagine the luxuries you have. I guess I reached my limit of taking sh*t for today. And needed to say so.

This post isn't about comparing luxuries. Everyone has been dealing with the pandemic in their own ways, and most of the negative that I deal with personally I choose not to post because my little slice on this internet is meant to feel fun. This post is simply about music, as it is every month.

I was listening to ‘Black Star’ by Gillian Welch (Radiohead cover) the other day and I cried my face off and couldn’t pinpoint the reason why since I’ve heard it a million times before and realized it was because the sound of the crowd and the few clumsy guitar strums she struggled through and ugh—I miss live music so much! :( I wonder if it will ever not feel weird to be in a crowd of sweaty people again?

Ohhh Black Star is one of my favorites! And I know exactly what you mean. :)

Many orchestras and societies, as well as high-level professional performers give good concerts for a purely pleasant cost. You can always find cheap Roger Waters tickets here
