Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrr! Flllllllll! (<–that worked better in my head.)

Okay first of all, let it be fully known that I despise AI. Loathe it. Can’t stand it. Wish it would burn to the ground.

But! Who here gets sucked into those damn AI videos on IG when it’s like, a show that you watched, and they’re showing the THEN character robotically standing or sitting on a couch or something. And then the NOW actor moves in and puts an arm around their younger self, followed by an awkward embrace and both looking at the camera. And then the camera moves to the right and starts over with another character or actor. You know these. They’re awful and we can’t look away.

But, WHO HERE braces for the angel wings? I’m always like, “Oh yeah I remember this show! Wait, did they die….did they die….are there angel wings? OH NO THERE ARE ANGEL WINGS WHAT HAPPENEEEEEDAAAAAH.”

Tell me I’m not alone in this.

Okay, I got this long grey dainty plaid trench coat at an estate sale yesterday for 3 bucks. It’s oversized and boxy and great. The inside sleeves are this gorgeous blue silk, and the body lining has a cool pattern to it. I should do a reverse image on it because the tag is gone. I’m pretending right now to know how to do a reverse image.

But the thing is, it stinks. Not like, decomp. But it smells like an estate sale. Like an old man’s teeth. I threw it in the washing machine (because it was three dollars, put your eyeballs back in their sockets) and hung it out to dry. It stiiiiill has a slight scent of regret to it. What do I do?! I feel like the dry cleaner would be useless, right? I just need something to lift the stench. (Also we’re starting a metal band called Lift the Stench.)

It also has this tiny dark spot under a lapel, and I said to Aaron, “Oh I can just put a little baking soda on that.” And he goes, “That will work?” And I said, “I don’t actually know, but people say those words all the time so I’m pretending to know what I’m talking about.”

Will that work? Help me.

Someone settle this for me – IS THERE a Gilmore Girls reunion or not? Am I being duped? (Again, I hate AI.) I cannot tell what is real and what is not. WILL THERE BE A REUNION? I’m not screaming at you, I’m attempting to Practical Magic the AI gods away.

Oh by the way, have you seen that trailer yet?! Already can’t wait.

But first, Gilmore.

And teeth coat.

Weekend plans?

It’s an absolute stunner here. We have very little and I plan to keep it that way. Finishing a book this morning so I can get you a Book Tasting episode this afternoon! A bit of gardening and some soccer and that’s all she wrote. It’s fabulous.

I managed to post an actual recipe earlier this week! Creamy Kielbasa with Gnocchi and Peas. Comforting and one pan, baby. Here’s that video, too.

Tell me what’s for dinner tonight! Spaghetti and meat sauce over here. Spill it.

The stain is probably set in there, but you can try a little Dawn dishsoap on it. (Btw, Dawn dishsoap is almost ALWAYS the answer to treating a stain) Smoosh a little Dawn in there - the old school blue kind, keep a little bottle in the laundry room just for this purpose - and then wash it again. Don't dry it. Hang it to dry, and see what happens. For the smell, try spraying the coat, especially the armpits, with either vodka or at least 92% isopropyl alcohol (you can add a drop or two of eucalyptus essential oil if you'd like) and then hang it again. It doesn't always work, but it's worth a try. And if you can hang it outside to dry, that's nice too. (I'm a costumer for film and tv and these are some of our tricks.)

Try some Dawn dish soap for the stain, the old school blue kind. Smoosh a little in there, let it sit for a mo, and then wash it. Hang to dry, and check it again. It's probably set in there from years ago, but for $3 what do you have to lose? For the smell, put either some vodka or 92%isopropyl alcohol (and a couple drops of eucalyptus essential oil if you want) in a spray bottle and go to town, especially in the armpits and lower back portion, where people ten to sweat. Then let it dry. Hang it outside if you can. These tricks don't always work, but I'm a costumer for film and tv and it's what I'd try!

AI is here to stay and we all need to get on board. Remember in the 90s when the Internet was this new fandangled thing and people hated it, questioned it, wanted to know how it worked, etc. SAME THING. See how far we have come in 30-40 years. AI is the new internet and it only gets better from here. I hate to say it but our generation needs to adapt or we get left behind. Love a good thirft/estate sale find! Have you tried oxy clean in the wash, it might help or just let the sun do its magic on it.

OdoBan is great for removing odors from clothes. It's what fire fighters use. Ditto on the Dawn dish soap to remove stains. I've had really good luck with brushing stains with the Dawn foam.

I would wash the coat with baking soda. I do it ti deodorize dog washes and it works. Or maybe just hang it outside in the sun and fresh air this weekend?

That long grey plaid trench coat sounds like quite a find, even if it smells like an estate sale. And those AI videos on Instagram? They're crazy addictive, right? The Gilmore Girls reunion rumor makes me wonder if AI is just playing with our nostalgia again.

Loved this one—your random thoughts always feel like a cozy catch-up with a friend. The mix of everyday chaos, humor, and little life updates is just perfect. Also, now I’m tempted to try those puzzles and rethink my weekend plans… Maybe with a little space waves energy to keep things fun!
