Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I mean BRRRRRRRR. (<–sorry)

Okay, when was the last time you thought about a rabbit’s foot?!

Like, not attached to the rabbit, that is. A keychain rabbit’s foot. A LUCKY CHARM. I’ve not thought about those since 1999 when I had a side part. What a weird thing those are! Were? Are? OMG, ARE?

It was mentioned in the book I just finished, and I was telling the kids all about lucky rabbit’s foot keychains and how they were REAL and we all just went along with it like it was normal. Gift shops, trinket shops, souvenir shops, they were all the rage! Ga-ross.

Did you have one? I don’t think I ever had one, but I can distinctly remember holding one that belonged to my friend and feeling the little feet bones in it. Ewwwwww.

(We’re starting a prog rock band called Little Feet Bones.)

Are they still around?! I’m not going to google it.

Don’t google it, Bev!

…are they?

You guys, if you ever see a “shared reel repost” on Instagram that I posted, please know it is always an accident. I have no idea that it even happened.

Do you know what I’m taking about? It was semi-recently added to the app – it’s like a weird little symbol RIGHT NEXT to the comment button, so if your finger is off by a slice of a minimilimeter, you’ve reposted a damn video about toenail clipping. And it’s on your profile now.

Not on the main grid! Lord no. But it’s in its own section of videos you’ve reposted. Why is this a thing! I had to google how to FIND THE REPOSTED VIDEOS like an 85 year old and go in and manually delete them all. Can you imagine? Like how long have those videos even been there?! People think I’m into the art of toenail clipping!

(I mean, I am, but that’s not for you to know.)

So I’m telling you now, if a rando video appears in my “reposted reels” section, it wasn’t me.

It was me, but without my knowing what the hell was even happening.

Thanks for your time.

So this is fun – last Friday on a COMPLETE whim I decided to post a little reel about Trader Joe’s wine and cheese pairing. And I had such a good time with it, and I feel like you all had such a good time with it, I’m doing it again!

But listen, we all know that wine and cheese pairings are a universal love language. You like what you like, you pair it with you want to pair it with, and that’s that.

What *I* am going to do with this series, is add a new layer to it. An element that makes sense for me, makes sense for so many of you, and just works.

Books.

A wine, a cheese, a book, and a laugh. It will be called Book Tasting, and I plan to post on Friday afternoons as you head into the weekend. Some with be themed, some will be random. All with be fun. While the videos will live on IG, I may post the books, the wines, the nibbles on Substack. All to be worked out in the coming weeks.

But for now, you can expect Friday afternoon videos with a little light suggestion of what to sip, what to nosh on, and what to read. I cannot wait. First one coming today!

If you missed the first video last Friday, here it is. It’s an absolute train wreck, but would you expect anything less?

Weekend plans?

I think 75% of the country is in that brutal path of ol’ Frost, right? We’re getting horrid temps and about a 5 inches of snow. So they say. I plan to completely redo my closet, visualize a different shoe storage route, giving Nat a bunch of my jeans, make English muffins (do you have a recipe?) and read a lot. We have a soccer game and a birthday party buuuuuuut. We shall see. It’s hunkerin’ time. (<–sorry I said it like that)

I did post a criminally comforting soup that you seriously need. Italian Turkey Meatball Noodle Soup! For the love, get in that. And the video!

Okay, ‘fess up – did you have tiny feet bone rabbit’s foot?

OMG! I totally had multiple rabbit’s feet. You’re right—so gross! I never really thought about it back then; it was just considered “lucky.” Wow… the ’80s were truly a different time.

Never had (but probably wanted😊) a lucky rabbit's foot back in the day. I'm excited to make your Chicken Enchilada Soup, from an earlier post, as the temperature plummets AND thank you, thank you for talking about accidentally reposting videos. I had NO clue where they ended up and how to delete them until reading this!!🥰🤣

Of course I had a lucky rabbits foot....it was some weird died color also, I think red. What a weird time. Stay safe this weekend, we are supposed to get 6-12" of snow...we shall see. Looking forward to books, wine and cheese. Some of my favorite things!

These are easy and (we think) delicious. I don't know why you stir 25 times in the same direction...gluten development?...but I just do it. https://www.agardenforthehouse.com/english-muffins-from-scratch/ I really like how I can just decide to make them at almost the last minute.

I actually STILL have my old rabbit's foot in my jewelry box! It doesn't seem like something you should just throw away...I don't really like the idea of severed appendages now but it's still soft which is the only reason I wound up with one.😏 We're possibly getting 18 inches if Satan's Dandruff this weekend so that's a nightmare!

I’ve been on a mission to find the best English muffin recipe, and thus far my very favorite is Claire Saffitz’s recipe in Dessert Person. I usually shape it using the directions from Alexandra Cooks sourdough English muffins so there’s no waste. Sometimes I’ll throw some sourdough starter in, but as written they’ve got tons of nooks and crannies and the right amount of chew. I think the recipe is on her YouTube if you don’t have her book!

Look up she likes milk in IG and you’ll be in English muffin recipe heaven. Never had a rabbits foot but was convinced it would bring luck to my tween self. Songross.
