Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrriday before Thanksgiviiiiiiiing! (<–I get excited about things.)

Okay. I was doing Connections yesterday and I’m sorry but TOOTH PULP?

What the hell is tooth pulp and why do those words ever need to be back to back? Ewwwww and I just looked it up and it’s the part that holds all the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue and it’s jelly-likeeeeewwwwwwww. Sorry to destroy your Friday morning.

Thing is the thing though, I feel like when I hear of something horrific like this I have the responsibility to take you all down with me.

Tooth pulp. Just let those words simmer in your psyche today.

While we’re on on the subject, have any of you ever heard of miswak sticks? Yes that is a real word and a real thing and you are going to flip when I paste what google says about it. Also obviously I’m asking for some for Christmas.

Look:

A miswak stick is a chewing twig from the Salvadora persica tree, used for oral hygiene to naturally clean teeth, remove plaque, and freshen breath. It works as a manual toothbrush by being frayed at one end to form a brush, and contains natural compounds like silica, tannins, and essential oils that provide mechanical and chemical cleaning, often without the need for toothpaste.

Of course that’s what AI says (which is the devil) but I’m also completely intrigued. I saw this video of a girl talking about how the miswak whitens teeth and while I’m mostly a stick of cynicism when it comes to this kind of stuff, I’m also like sign me up.

Have you every tried it? Is it gross? Does it work? Have we all been swindled? (adding to Christmas list.)

Okay, where are you with Thanksgiving planning? What does this weekend look like for you? We’re hosting 10 people total, so I’ve been going down my long prep list and getting little things done here and there all week. Of course things I’ll have to redo on Tuesday because 4 people and an old dog live here. Ha! Oh.

But! Feeling productive and good and well and ready. I’m shopping for food today, starting the stock this weekend, nailing down the candle/landscape situation, before all the real stuff starts on Monday. To me the anticipation and the prep is one of the best parts. Pair it with the steady rain we’re getting and the rich layered hues of mustards and rusts and deep purples hanging in the trees and covering the streets and yards and the fog looming in the air, it’s just absolutely perfect. Doesn’t get any better. But I could romanticize toenail clipping, so ignore me.

Weekend plans?

We have a couple of soccer games, a sleepover, a walk, some T-giving prep, finishing a book and just hanging. AND we’ll be watching By the Light of the Silvery Moon which is a life-long family staple (I’ve watched my entire life), so that is priority.

I did post a Creamy Kale Soup earlier this week that you should definitely check out! It’s delicious and criminally easy. Here’s that video.

Okay, tooth pulp and miswak sticks – WHAT PLANET ARE WE EVEN ON.

Also what’s for dinner tonight?

If you have ever had a root canal you would intimately familiar with tooth pulp. Lucky you, you have not. Not sure about using a twig to brush my teeth, only if I am on Survivor. Have a great Thanksgiving!

In Wacky Flip, you’re constantly adjusting your timing to survive each jump. The platforms get harder, the distances get longer, and the flips get riskier. But landing perfectly feels incredibly rewarding. The physics make every run unpredictable.

Friday vibes! Yeah, tooth pulp in Connections is definitely not something I want to think about. If you're in the mood for a different kind of game experience, creepy dates is a free online dating sim with some really interesting storylines.

I totally agree—learning about tooth pulp was both horrifying and fascinating! It’s amazing how the human body can be so unsettling yet intriguing. If you’re into exploring unsettling themes, you might enjoy this psychological horror game that dives into memory and identity.

Tooth pulp? Yikes! I’d rather distract myself with something fun like dating creepypasta characters—way less gross and way more thrilling. Also, miswak sticks sound oddly fascinating, but I’ll stick to my virtual horror romances.

I was having a perfectly normal day until I read this. . Tooth pulp is now at the top of my list of phrases I wish didn't exist.

getting over it is a challenging physics-based climbing game where players control a man in a cauldron using only a hammer to overcome difficult obstacles and reach the summit.

Haha, miswak sticks are wild -- I might have to look those up too. Tooth pulp is going to live in my brain all weekend, thanks for that. On a totally different note, I always end up with a stack of slightly blurry food photos after big family dinners because everyone is moving plates around. Lately I have been running them through a free browser-based sharpening tool before sending the recap album to the family, and it saves a bunch of shots I would have tossed otherwise. Hope your Thanksgiving is delicious!

Ha, the miswak stick rabbit hole is real -- I went down it once and came out convinced I needed a whole new oral care routine. And tooth pulp... why do those fun fact articles always have to be horrifying? On a totally different note -- after every big family meal my phone photos end up half-blurry from someone's elbow, so I feel your pain on that front too. Happy almost-Thanksgiving!
