Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriday! (<–didn’t see that coming, eh?)

Okay, I’m surprised at the amount of people in my stories who don’t know what a Boo Bag is! Is this a regional thing? A midwest thing? There were a few messages from the New England area asking what the heck a boo bag is….what!!

It’s just a bag with candy. Hahahah! Nothing exciting. BUT – it’s the drop and scram part that’s the fun of it. You fill a tiny festive bag with a few pieces of candy, along with a little note that says, “You’ve been Boo’d! Keep the fun going blah blah…” It’s basically a fast track to cavities is all.

But here’s the thing. I took my two kids and their friends around to drop off our bags, right? They wanted to KNOCK on the door when the bag was dropped. Knock on the door! Which okay, I get it. But if someone knocks on my front door, I immediately think murderer.

Because isn’t the fun of the boo bag the surprise when you open the door and find it there? Not being startled to high heaven by an 11 year old masked murderer?

Right.

Tell me what you do: drop and scram? Or knock like a psycho?

You’re still a good person either way.

Remember last year when we were trying to watch all the cozy fall movies? And remember when I watched Dead Poets Society for the FIRST TIME and you all completely died over it? Me, too.

Tell me what you’re watching right now. Halloween only or just all things fall? I still have yet to watch Autumn in New York with Winona and Richard. Still! As in EVER. Can you believe that? Should I make it my beeswax to watch it asap?

Also, while I’m upsetting you, would you believe I’ve never seen Mona Lisa Smile? NOR Sweet November! NOR Far From Heaven! Nor STEPMOM!

Did you just throw your laptop in a river?

This is what I need from you: put these in order for me. Rank them 1 through 5 and tell me which ones to watch first. This is a travesty. I can make this happen before Thanksgiving. Before Christmas for SURE.

Look at us being a team!

. . . hello?

Also tell me this – when will you carve your pumpkins? This weekend or sometime next week? I need these details to thrive in this world.

Weekend plans?!

Tonight we have Trunk or Treat at the school. It rains aaaaaall day (which you know I completely obsess over), but it stops right in time for me to open my front door at 4pm and have some wine and nibbles with neighborhood moms and kids before we walk up. It’s tradition, baby. You don’t mess with it. Soccer game in the morning (if it’s not rained out), then making some cute Halloween snacks in the afternoon for a Mom/Daughter Spooky Sleepover at my friend’s house. Oh, you know I’ll show you. Sunday is rest day and I plan to read ALL of Don’t Let Him In because I am HOOKED.

I did post a recipe earlier this week! It’s a Creamy Polenta with Sausages and Peppers. Absolutely delicious. And the video for it!

Okay, movie order – let’s do it.

So we started the boo bag in our neighborhood and we did not get booed. :( You put a sticker in your window after you were booed. At the time, there were not a lot of kids and the age range was varied. We were like, what the heck! Was it us? We never did it again. I just had a thought though, people should do boo bags but for pets! My dog has a tremendous number of bffs in the neighborhood. Maybe Bailey Rose would get booed. :)

I'm a NYer now living in CT. Never did boo bags but perhaps we're just horribly unpopular...😒 I think a ding dong and ditch method would be good, I'd be afraid an animal would steal the bag. I carve the day before Halloween, nobody wants a saggy baggy moldy Jack-o-lantern! I have never seen those last movies you mentioned either.

We watched Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp last weekend and loved it. It's such an old fashioned Halloween movie.

I just watched Uncle Buck for the first time! I thought I had seen it and kept telling my husband I didn't like it (which he was appalled by) because I was confusing it with What About Bob. Also please watch Stepmom and ball your eyes out. It's the best!
