Monthly Mixtape: It’s Like We’re in a Scene from Parenthood

First of all, just how achingly much do you miss Parenthood?

It’s BAD, I KNOW.

More importantly, how bad do you miss the music from Parenthood? I can sense you nodding . . . and tearing up.

It’s not even a specific song. It’s that overall EMOTIONAL FACE PUNCH that the music editors were able to produce. I swear, they had it so flawlessly dialed in, it made all of us a regular weeping sack of sob. It was the impeccable combo of tug-at-your-nucleus-strings riiiight when something sweet or sad is happening on screen, mixed with a soul-fluttering acoustic pep riiiiight when something joyful or carefree is happening on screen. It was the VIBE. That special energy that cracked your soul in half. It was perfection.

I can’t say that all of the songs on this mix were actually ON the show. I know a lot were! But every song on this playlist has that chill, happy, laid back, beautiful, soothing, can’t-decide-if-you’d-rather-dance-with-a-pony-or-slug-a-sloth feel. (you know exactly what I’m talking about)

Also – quiz! One of these songs is from Friday Night Lights (that show had the exact same effect, given that the music people were probably the same) – can you tell me which one? I’ll even give you the scene. It’s when Lyla, Jason and Tim were driving back from Mexico, and they stop at the little bar by the highway. She’s twirling around in a slow dance with both of them, back and forth. It was frankly a little awkward, but still managed to make me jealous. Which song!?

This mix seriously might be my favorite one. It will make you nostalgic for something, giddy for something, but you can’t put your finger on what it even is. It makes you wish it was the soundtrack to your life. That’s what they did to us. It’s ALL THEIR FAULT.

It’s also good to clean the house to, so. There’s that.
