Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrri’m back!

Yeah, I was gone a little bit.

Didn’t notice?

Oh.

First of all, how’s your summer going? How are we all feeling? When does school start?

I’m just kidding.

Sort of.

OKAY – it’s very very very hot outside, and we need to take a poll. Because I’m normally in a certain camp when it comes to this poll, but lately when I dip my toes (er, mouth) into this other camp, I totally get it. I totally totally get it.

POOOOOOOOLLAH!:::: Iced water or room temperature?

Me? I’m a room temp girl all day long. Super cold water hurts my teeth, brain, esophagus and body. HOWEVER, Nat wanted some ice in her water last night for her bed side table, and it looked so pretty in the jar, I took a sip. (mom, I actually had a bag of ice in the freezer!)

Hello, refreshing. I get it! I see where you’re coming from. Matter of fact, as I’m typing this out I’m reminding myself how I used to make a HUGE jug of iced cucumber water in the summer. I’m doing that today. I’m doing it today! Look at us! Who would have thought?

(I’m adding mint, too.)

You know what I’m suuuuper sick of? (I’m in a great mood, why do you ask?) And let me tell you, unless it’s a specific hardcore partnership with no workaround, I’ll never ask you to “comment link” or “comment recipe” or “comment backache” or “comment zit removal” or “comment toe jam” or “comment armpit snot” or “comment nostril cavern” for something in return. Never! That is beyond obnoxious and I have no idea how this trend got started.

Besides engagement and all that.

Actually, maybe I’ll ask you to “comment nostril cavern,” but only in desperate times.

You know what else I’m completely over? Parking fees. When did the world decide that leaving a vehicle in a parking spot for a number of hours would cost the price of a mansion?

This annoyance is a sure sign of me slowly becoming George Banks from Father of the Bride. You know when he’s in jail for ripping open a bag of hot dog buns because only wanted eight hot dog buns to match the eight hot dogs? And Nina goes to bail him out in her fabulous trench coat and she taunts him from the jail cell door about how they don’t go to Europe, or own expensive jewelry or own fancy cars (lie), so they can afford a nice wedding? And then the jail guard clears his throat and she’s all, “You told him how much the wedding costs, didn’t you?” And the jail guard goes, “$250 a head.” And George goes, “Oh well thanks.”

That’s me with parking fees when people ask about our trip to Colorado.

“How was the trip?”

“Wonderful! Except we paid $65 for parking in Vail.”

George, I FEEL YOU.

You know my puzzled-obsessed life, right? I have two new ones for you to add to your routine!

First up, do you get the Daily Skimm? I love its morning newsletters. It makes news and information conversational and digestible. All the headlines are casual and quippy, with the core of the info right below it, just like you’re talking to a bestie.

But my point is, at the end of each newsletter they have games and puzzle links, much like the New York Times. Comment PUZZLES and I’ll send them straight to your inb- just kidding.

My go-tos are Typeshift and Spelltower. Try them! They are SO fun. They wake the noggin up.

And then send me your faves! You know I’m already all over Wordle, Strands, Connections and the Mini Crossword., but am always open to adding more ways to avoid other tasks in the morning.

Weekend plans?

I’m in a desperate need for a couch night tonight. I’ll make shrimp tacos with a mango/kiwi salsa (I’ll write it all down and shoot it for the blog if it’s great), and try and make more progress with my book. I’m so incredibly behind in my reading pace and it’s killing my soul. I’m not ME if I’m not devouring a book. So tonight, it’s me and Final Girls. We’re making it happen.

Lots of weeding tomorrow and a fun hang with friends tomorrow night. Sunday more of said weeding and reading. That’s how I’ll feel anchored again. Weeding and reading. Full stop. Thanks for listening.

From this week::: Sundried Tomato and Rosemary Focaccia! Crazy delicious. And the video for ya. Also I posted a Colorado recap via reel! (and stories, all saved in a highlight.) Peruse that if you need a kiss of mountain life.

Comment Butt Munch and and I’ll send them directly to your inbo- just kidding.

Ice water all day long but I’m perfectly happy with room temp coffee. Have you tried NYT tiles??! I love that one as well. Welcome back!

Only ice water. Ever. Do you plant with a plan in your backyard or go where your heart leads you? I love the aesthetic you’ve created. I’m with you on the comment prompts. It makes the reader feel like they are just considered part of stats instead of interested readers.

Favorite game is https://www.cinenerdle2.app/, so fun! Swap tiles to organize them into rows and/or columns representing movies. Tile colors will change when 4 tiles belonging to the same movie are in the same row or column. There are almost 600 puzzles (I started on the very first day, but don't do it as often as I would like). It's so fun!! I also like Hurdle, which is on the (gasp!) AARP website. It's like Wordle but it builds upon itself and is really fun as well!

Normally I am fine with room temp water but, after our daily walks in this heat, gimme the ice! I am with you on the comment recipe or whatevers. Where did they come from and why?? Hope you get some good couch and reading time this weekend!
