Friday Flotsam (Plus a Flash Giveaway!)

Greeeeetings from the Arkansas roa! – yes we’re still traveling.

Friday Flotsam

We’ve been to Mississippi. We slept in shacks. We played in cotton fields. We cooked a gigantor friendsgiving meal. We’ve been to Hot Springs, AR. We stuck our feet in actual hot springs. I screamed. We sneaked around old historic bathhouses. We crashed a local chili cook-off. I crashed a small men’s caroling group. We’ve been to Little Rock. We played with cousins. We ate green bean casserole. We took photos by sheds. We drank chocolate tea.

No no, not hot chocolate. Not tea. But chocolate tea.

I’ll let you form your own opinion.

Friday Flotsam

It’s been SUUUCH a fun trip, but I seriously put on 94734 pounds and feel like a huge pile of doo. But it’s not my fault! I was blindfolded and held captive for nine straight days and force fed enormo spoonfuls of sweet potato casserole and broccoli rice casserole and chocolate cream pies. I was terrified and alone in this dark world.

Am I gross if I want to do it all again?

Friday Flotsam

This is my little niece-y-poo Breckon. I promise she has an actual body attached to her floating head. This is us in the Krogers while my mom and sis perused the aisles looking for cheese dip ingredients. I was in charge of not losing her to murderers.

But let’s be honest, am I really the safer route? Really?

Friday Flotsam / Wimbley The Wonder Boy Giveaway

Before I let you go, I want to tell you about this adorable little children’s book by my old high school friend, Angie. Hold up, I don’t mean she’s old. We all are. Wait, that’s not what I mean either. Well, we graduated in ’94. I guess we are sort of old. I mean, just look at my hand right there. OLD. See that white speckle of paint? Thaaaat would be from three weeks ago when I spray painted our pine cones white. It’s STILL ON MY NAIL.

N-E-WAY, she published this children’s book and it’s so cute I just had to show you. It’s called Wimbley the Wonder Boy, and it’s the story of this super crazy cute curious kid. Dude wonders about errrthang. The illustrations are really nice, too. Not over the top. Just right! Your kiddies will dig.

I figured since we’ve officially entered hell, I MEAN the holiday shopping season, I’d offer a flash giveaway for a signed copy of this book! If you have a handful of littles in your life, you need a bunch.

It’s open to the whooooole world, and the giveaway will end next Friday when I announce the winner in my flotsam post. Easy enough, n’est-ce pas?

Friday Flotsam / Wimbley The Wonder Boy Giveaway

Here’s my super important question: Do you do your holiday shopping in malls, boutiques and stores? Strictly online? Homemade goodies? All of the above? None of the above? Or do you already want to go back to bed?

As always, you can follow me in all the places and leave comments lettin’ me know. Boom.

I hope you’re all still in a total turkey tryptophan trance and have a fabby fab holiday weekend!

(don’t tell anyone I just said fabby fab.)

I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet. Well, that's not true – I bought myself a skillet (online). :D Will probably make a list of all the gifts and then hit a mall like a crazy person. Love the book; would love to do something like that myself.

My goal this year is to make homemade gifts for everyone...or semi-homemade. I mean, it takes a lot of work to put together one of those online scrapbook photo albums even though I pay someone else to print it for me. As for the rest of the gifts, Pinterest here I come!

Wellll... I live in the Philippines and haven't been home in about two years, so this year we're hoping to get all "local" gifts for friends and family to, you know, show we love the culture. (Basically that means we buy everything we see with the word 'filipino,' or 'mango,' on it. We hands-down have the best mangoes in the world here.) Except a couple of those awesome lululemon scarves - very not local - the ones that snap up and down and around to become everything but a scarf. The book sounds awesome. I teach inquiry curriculum, so wondering, in itself, is a big part of our day!

I do most of my shopping online, but a lot of it is from etsy.

I buy from everywhere! I love Etsy stuff but it doesn't have as much of a market for my family.

I am using three methods for accumulating gifts this year. I will be baking goodies for a few friends, shopping on line for hard to find items, and of course the mall. As my children get older it is much easier just to shop on line but I still enjoy seeing the Christmas decorations and just having the " mall " experience. I am only about 20% into my shopping this year. Good luck to all you ladies with your shopping.

I do a little bit 'o everything. My fave is a glass of wine and the internets (as my kids used to say). Fire in the fireplace...ooh la la. Then I also shop local, I live on Cape Cod and we have many wonderful locally owned shops. Then, when necessary, the mall, for those items you just have to see to buy....kids pj's etc.

With a 2 1/2 yr old and 8 month old it's an easy decision. Online shopping!!!! The mall with two little people would be torture!!!! Oh and we make Christmas ornaments to top the gifts with :) lots of messy fun.

Last year on Black Friday I ended up in the hospital 6 months pregnant having contractions from overextending myself all week long. I wasn't even shopping that day, but the week off of work had me in nesting mode big time. Luckily they were able to stop the contractions and I went on to have my healthy baby boy 6 days past my due date on March 3rd. Well, after the scare my husband banned me from any and all stores so I was forced to online shop. I've gotta say it was life changing. I will no longer be that chump standing in line with a bunch of disgruntled shoppers trying to get the next best deal. From now on online is the only way to go for me.

I ordered a few magnets with my daughter's face pictured on them, because that's honestly what people are getting for Christmas. It's not like they can tell me to my face they hate it, because she's adorable. I also might throw in some handmade gifts like a bag o' cookies or hot chocolate mix with a little bottle of fancy liquor on the side. So it's a mix between buying shitty gifts online and making stuff. We have no money, this our first child, people will understand. Right?
  15. Tracy November 28, 2014 at 1:21 pm #
I've done most of my shopping online so far. I don't do it unless I can find free shipping though! lol.
  16. Liz November 28, 2014 at 4:15 pm #
I shop 98% online, on my couch and with unwashed hair, preferably. I pick up stocking stuffers at TJ Maxx or HomeGoods and alcohol gifts at the packie.
  17. Amanda D November 28, 2014 at 4:35 pm #
I try to shop locally as much as I can, but this year I'm trying to do pretty much everything online. Our baby is due on December 1st, and I'm running out of energy (and patience) for standing in lines.
  18. Lyn M November 28, 2014 at 4:43 pm #
I shop everywhere, online, big box stores, local shops

I love shopping in person, walking through the stores, but folks get so crazy out there that the magic is sucked right out of it. So, to answer your question: all of the above. (P.S. Following you on IG, Twitter, and Pinterest)

When I lived in Minneapolis I did all my shopping at local stores and boutiques, but now that I am in the frozen tundra of North Dakota - ONLINE BABY!

Fun giveaway! I do most of my shopping in stores. I love the crowds on Black Friday. I also compare prices online and do some shopping there. I sprinkle in a few homemade gifts, too, but I don't generally start those until much closer to Christmas.

I do my shopping online because it's a win-win: I get packages in the mail (my favorite) and my friends/family get their presents!
  40. Suzi S. December 1, 2014 at 12:35 pm #
95% online, but I have to come out of the covers for some of those local shops. Also, baked goods for everyone!!
  41. Tanah December 1, 2014 at 12:47 pm #

I like to wait until it's actually after Thanksgiving to start shopping. Sometimes I have a list of ideas beforehand but that's it. I like to shop at boutiques, small businesses and online. I love to make gifts too...this year I'm doing some homemade vanilla extract for close friends and family
