Hello, February! Did you know we have a leap day this month? Does that mean the extra day DELAYS the gray hairs, or speeds them up? I have yet to decide how I feel about this.
That photo right there? ^^^ I’d like to think this is a pivotal moment of discovery in their lives, even though truthfully they have less than zero clue what’s happening. That CD in their hands is their once-hip parents in their once-hip and cool indie rock band. Yes, little children, your mommy was super rockin’ and played an off white Jazz Fender bass bigger than herself, with 3-inch off white pumps to match. She sang and played tragic love songs with your da- wait, don’t throw the CD in the toilet! Now don’t put it in your mouth!
Aaron and I always talk about harmonies. To us, there are blood harmonies and love harmonies. Like, when I sing with my mom and sister, it’s magical. We sound the exact same, yet our voices are individually vastly different. When I sing with close girlfriends (holla, Michelle, Sara, Katelyn!) the blending that occurs is almost hypnotic. But when I sing with Aaron, it absolutely transcends. Sometimes after a show, Aaron would describe closing his eyes, and being unable to tell where his voice ended and my voice began. That happens a lot with husband and wife duos. It’s the LOVE harmonies, man!
(If I start singing The Love Boat lyrics are you going to paper cut me?)
So, I felt it only fitting to showcase my very favorite guy/girl harmonizers this month. During February. You know, Valentine’s Da- oh you got that.
96% of these bands are actually a married duo! Even the ones that aren’t, still possess harmonizing powers that are straight ridic. Whether tight and clear, lush and layered, produced and perfect, or vintage and raw, the harmonies in this mixtape are among the very ones that helped vocally shape me, without a doubt. And yes, my old band is definitely in this mix. Is that d-baggy?
To love harmonies! (and horrible bleach jobs. you can’t tell me you didn’t notice my awful hair on that CD cover. like, it was bad. way, way bad.)
I give you . . . the “Couple Skate” mix.
You can always click the below to listen later! (everything is free, bee tee dub)
Okay, so tell me your fave guy/girl duos. Anything new (or old) I should check out?
Also, do you think my hair looks better these days? Wait, don’t answer that.
