Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrreederleedeeeee!

Well we’re nine days into January. The new year. How are you all feeling? Motivated? Overwhelmed? Fresh? Anxious? A little giddy? A little rundown?

Same. I don’t do resolutions. Never ever have. It’s too much pressure and they make me cranky. And I’m already perimenopausal so we’re simply having none of it. Don’t get me wrong, I love little goals and challenges and a structured regime for SURE. I need anchor points and order in the week with room to wing a little bit here and there. But it doesn’t help when you turn on the damn news and watch our country continue to circle the toilet bowl.

But I’m not doing that today! We’re going to find our rhythm and our poetry and our joy. Ya hear me? We’re gonna find it if it’s THE LAST THING WE DO.

I feel better already. (I think it’s the coffee. which we are not giving up because we are not lunatics.)

Today’s Friday Flotsam doesn’t have much guts to it, other than a couple of links and something that I need to address. First of all, these Saucony running shoes. I have a running post from a few years back when I ran the half marathon, but I want to update you all on what I’m running in right now (well, by that I mean two times this week. I’m easing back in!) because holiest of holy cows, these shoes are absolute clouds.

They’re not as obnoxious looking as say, a Hoka shoe. The sole is thick, but it’s not moon-walking shoe thick. They’re bouncy! And cushiony! And an absolute dream. Highly highly recommend if you’re in the market for a new running shoe this year. They’re on sale, too! Giddy up.

Something else I’d like to show you all slash help Nat out with (she’ll be walking door to door, too <with an adult of course, simmer down>) is Girl Scout cookies! This is her last year in Girl Scouts, and the troop is saving for up a trip to Chicago as their final hurrah. If you feel like supporting/snacking on cookies (again, resolutions schmesolutions), here’s a link to do so! And you have them shipped directly to your door. Who here can resist a good Samoa. I mean Caramel deLite. I mean Samoa.

Never mind.

And thank you.

Weekend plans?

Will’s (begrudgingly) in the school spelling bee this morning! (pure irony is that I had to look how to spell begrudgingly. don’t tell Will.) I’ll finish Intermezzo this afternoon (will report back!) and dive into a very heavy soccer weekend. Practice tonight, game tomorrow morning, game tomorrow night, and the Comet’s (KC’s men’s pro indoor soccer team) game on Sunday night! I also have a little plan to unscrew a couple of muted silver handles on a moveable island and paint them brass. But that’s neither hither nor thither.

Oh! I posted a 2025 book recap yesterday, for those who missed it. I truly would love to know your favorites of the year so I can make entire personality about it for this year. Don’t leave me hanging!

Also if you need me all winter, I’ll be struggling it the grocery store produce aisle trying to open a paper thin clear baggie.

“We’re going to find our rhythm and our poetry and our joy……. If it’s THE LAST THING WE DO.” And not give up coffee, and struggle with plastic bags. Amen! And I feel ya.
