Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrewwwwwwwwderdeeeeeee!

Hold on I’m listening to the new Snow on the Beach featuring more Lana Del Rey.

One sec, one sec.

. . . Okay that is GOOD. That is actually really really good. I loved the first version but the world was totally right – it needed more Lana. I’m not even a massive Lana fan but let’s be clear, she like, half whispered in it on one tiny note and they called it “featuring Lana Del Rey.” Nope.

But the grit of the song is different! The vocals have this sassy attitude in places and the whole song feels fresh and appropriately redone. I’m in love with it.

That’s it. That’s all I had to say about that.

Also Hits Different is super cute. Into it.

Aaron’s going to looooooove new Taylor songs to blast.

Speaking of, Paranormal Activity was on TV last night, so we watched a few scenes to remember just much I sh*t my pants the first time I saw it. I truly don’t think I’ve ever become so unhinged during a movie than I did with Paranormal.

Except with The Blair Witch Project! I still haven’t recovered from seeing that movie in the theater in 1999.

But Aaron made a good point last night, but as I’m typing this out I’m realizing how they do it and it’s silly to ask but I’m going to anyway. When they film the night sleeping scenes (in Paranormal) and it’s a time lapse with the little clock in the lower right hand side of the screen, and all this time passes, do the actors have to lie there that whole time while the hours click by? And yes, I’m embarrassed that a) he asked (maybe he was joking just to see how I would react.) and that b) I just typed it out. Because technically yes they lie there. But it’s really probably like ten minutes and they speed the camera up for some cinematic wizardry. Can you imagine if they had to lie in that bed for HOURS and then speed it up in post? Ha! Wait.

Speaking of, which one scared you more? The Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity? Which one STILL scares you more?

Will asked me this question last night and I told him that really, they’re about even. “But you have to pick, Mom.” <–classic 9 year old. Ummm, maybe Blair Witch? Actually no, Paranormal. I can’t make a decision on this.

Which one had you ishing all the bricks you’ve ever known?

Or what scared you more than those two movies?! Let’s hear it.

(you can tell I’m dry on topics today, can’t ya?)

Do any of you have a nail polish (preferably clear or pearly) that will keep me from freaking nibbling on my dern nails? YES I’m 46 and this still happens. (sorry, Laura) I don’t even notice it either. There’s a snag, immediately followed by a nibble, immediately followed by zero nail and a throbbing quick and a slew of wirty dords. It’s awful. I’m a disgrace. Someone help. I just need a clear thickening polish or something that will keep these things from snagging and ripping and flipping me off.

Memorial Day weekend plans?

Ohhhhh it’s a doozy! We have a French Market lunch today with an out-of-town friend, a girl sleepover tonight, a boy hang with parents tonight, an outdoor movie party tomorrow night (I’m not hosting, just attending!), the pool (!), a lot of reading, some yard maintenance, some garden lurking and obsessing. Also activating my brand new Garmin watch today! I’ve always taken running seriously, but this is getting other level, y’all. I’ll keep you posted and if I love the watch, I’ll show ya.

From this weeeeeeeeek: Roasted Tilapia with a Cucumber, Caper and Red Onion Salad. It’s so light and so happy. You need it. And the video! And then yesterday we have Toasted Croissants with Strawberries and Mascarpone! Super super simple and a showstopper for your brunch table. And the video!

Okay I need ALL your Memorial Day deets. Spilleth.

For polish, Olive and June is the best imo. For clear strengthening I like Rocket Nail Fuel On Amazon.

I have a problem with picking at my nails, as well. I’ve had great luck with Color Street nail polish strips. There are other brands, too. That’s just what I use. They are less expensive than a manicure, and once you get the hang of it, super quick and no dry time! I still occasionally get a broken nail, but I’m way less likely to whittle it to the quick because my nails are cute! Only weekend plans are pulling weeds, hoping it rains, and making chili!

I remember seeing Blair Wit in the the with friends one night and then having to walk home on the dark Brooklyn streets...kind of freaky!

I used to struggle with picking at my nails too. Now I swear by the Essie Gel Couture polish. I'm tough on my nails and can get 10-14 days out of one treatment. My current favorite color is Sheer Fantasy.

Love Olive & June polish. The remover is next level so make sure to get that. It makes my home mani an actual pleasure. Blair Witch in the theater- nothing scarier. Ruined me for camping trips and essentially anything outdoors at night.

I remember seeing Paranormal Activity in theaters with a group of friends my freshmen year of college - it was so fun seeing it in a packed theater! I felt totally safe back in my dorm because I was literally surrounded by people. I don’t remember Blair Witch being that scary? Maybe I should rewatch!
