I have no way to introduce this post without sounding completely unhinged. So I’ll just go for it. We all know of Will’s blistering obsession with the Beatles. (I mean, my work is done, right?) The boy is swallowed. He constantly teeters on who he’s more like, musically and personally: Paul’s sweethearted nature and unrivaled likability vs John’s brooding intellect. I say he’s a bit of both.
One song has stuck out to him above the early pop zingers and later psychedelic tracks. Across the Universe. Which makes my heart soar. I love the song so much it hurts. Remember Fiona’s version in the ’90s? Ugh, insane.
Will decided on the spot to pop into Dustin’s studio while we were in Little Rock and record his own version. He laid down the acoustic guitar first, then his vocals. His gut-wrenching-beyond-precious young vocals. It’s not perfect. But it’s imperfectly perfect. And I’ll love it forever.
A couple of nights later, Natalie and cousin Leighton added some harmonies, and we all died.
Aaron said it perfectly when he said, “There’s something about the innocence of a ten-year old boy singing the words ‘nothing’s gonna change my world.'”
Uuuuugh. Yes. I’ll cherish this for the rest of time. Enjoy.
