I’m about to make your kids absurdly happy.
First of all, this is basically a jar of nourishment for breakfast. IN A DESSERT COSTUME.
You guys, until now, I’d never realized that overnight oats are a ridiculously easy way to swindle your littles into eating something, dare I say – nutritious? AND have their dang chocolate chips, too.
Have you ever made overnight oats? I have to admit, this whole chilled-oats idea is new to me. When I think of overnight oats, I’d always imagined the oats obviously soaking in a liquid, overnight, but then cooked the next morning.
Right?
WRONG.
They’re straight cold. As in, layer layer layer, pour some liquid in, close the lid, stick it in the fridge.
Next morning rolls around and boom. Served.
HOW IS THIS A THING?
It is. It is a thing. I’m so happy.
This is what I did for my gremlins. I poured 1/3 cup Quaker Old Fashioned Oats in a small half-pint mason jar. Added a dollop of crunchy peanut butter (hi, texture), spraaankled in some chocolate chips (because I’m an awesome mom like that. don’t tell my mom.).
Then added a little toasted coconut flakes (you can find already toasted, or toast your own!).
Isn’t this already so good? Just look at all that ^^^.
Then I poured some milk right over everything, until it just barely covered the . . . filling? Filling’s not right.
Innards?
Goodies?
Guts?
Guts!
I’ll stop.
Fast forward about 12 hours aaaaand breakfast in a jar!
IN A JAR.
I added some sliced banana and dusted it with cinnamon, just to mix in a fruit and up the awesomeness ante. You seriously just give the (softened!) oats a little stir, and you’re good to shovel it into your head.
And that is just what they did.
(and me, too.)
Overnight oats. Who knew! (besides the rest of the entire world)
Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups Quaker Old Fashioned Oats, divided
- 4 Tbs. crunchy (or soft) peanut butter
- 4 Tbs. chocolate chips
- 4 Tbs. toasted coconut shavings
- 4 cups (about) whole milk (reduced fat is fine, too)
- 1 banana, thinly sliced
- cinnamon, for dusting
Instructions
- Pour 1/3 cup Quaker Old Fashioned Oats into 4 half-pint mason jars. Top with a Tbs. each of peanut butter, chocolate chips and coconut shavings. Pour about a cup of milk into each jar, covering the oats mix. Close the lid on each jar and chill in the fridge overnight.
- The next morning, remove the lids and give each jar a slight stir. Top with sliced banana and a dusting of cinnamon!
- Serves 4.
