Monthly Mixtape (Birthday Candles and Rosé)

Hellooooo, August!

And welcome to your second overdose of Bev’s music obsessions, AKA: another round of my favoritest songs, AKA: it’s my birthday month so I’m basically the queen of life, AKA: why did I just speak in third person a few seconds ago?

I always love this time of year, which is completely insane because it feels like the sun is giving the earth an enormous wet willy. But to me, August always feels like the great summer wind-down month. Beach vacations are but a vague, blurry memory. New previews for TV fall show lineups are starting to fill ad spots on the tele. It’s back to SCHOOL!

I can honestly say I cannot wait until the babies start school. That delicious woody smell of a brand new pack of #2 pencils, are you kidding? Starchy, crisp notebooks, the familiar ting of your favorite Annie metal lunchbox, a good old Trapper Keeper. Yas. Cannot wait. Wait, are you grossed out that I said “tele” up there? Good.

So anyway, this mix. I made this mix specifically in mind for this time of year. This wind-down month. It’s a teeny bit more chill than the last one. Slightly drony here and there. Vibey. But don’t worry, it’s still definitely peppered with some ROCK. (all caps apparently necessary) It builds and swells in places, relaxes in other, ending with my a.l.l.t.i.m.e. favorite song. No song will ever compare to the perfection of this classical musical masterpiece. It has always been, and will always remain number one for me. And that is Debussy’s Claire De Lune. Ahhhh. Can we just take a moment? No? Wow, okay.

This mix is meant to be listened to as you savor the last of these laaaazy summuh days, baes. (<–rhyming is cool) Listen to it in the evening as you dine outside, noticing the sun’s hitting the hay a kiss earlier than a week before. Listen to it as you and your lovies linger under the moonlight and refill that last glass of rosé, as the cicadas fill the sky with their rhythmic, buzzing chorus. Shoot, listen to it right now. It’s my birthday month, so you have to do what I say.
