Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrroooooder!

You know what I would LOVE to do?

A bookstore reel for you. Nothing but local Kansas City/OP indie bookstores (some new, some old) that ooze charm, plants, and even wine. We have it all. I’m dead serious. We have bookstore downtown that is a BAR. Wanna come? (I’m looking at you, Ash.)

I’m thinking five bookstores. Show you the location, the interiors, get the vibe so you know what’s up before you trek here or there. Would you want to see that!? Even non-KCers, I feel like you’d dig it, if you have a KC trip on the docket for whenever in the future.

Bookstore reel! I gotta!

Speaking of trips, yesterday was one of those serendipitous days where Aaron worked from home. And because of that, at some point right after lunch I said to him, “We need to figure out summer camps for the kids. They have tennis lessons, but no camps. Let’s get this done real quick.” And he said, “Let’s also take a little vacation. Colorado for a few days. We’ve talked about this forever.”

And *I* said, “Yes! Let’s visit Laura and Eric. I’ll text her with dates.” And SHE said, “We’re here! What are the plans?” And *I* said, “No idea. Estes? Vail?” And SHE said, “Can we uhhhh, join you?” and *I* screamed to a dangerous decibel, “YES. YES!” And SHE said, “We have clients in Vail with a mountain house. Hold up. We’ll see if it’s available.” And *I* screamed again, reaching another decibel of catastrophic damage. And SHE came back with, “It’s open and ours! Off to Vail we go!”

And just like that, vacation is planned. Within a matter of three hours. WITH BESTIES.

That said, if you have any fun recommendations for kids or great restaurants or one of those mountain coaster thingies, holla. We go in June. I can’t wait!

And yes I did manage to get the kids booked for camps. Nat’s going to a cool all-week soccer camp (includes lunch and swimming!) and Will’s booked for an IMPROV CAMP. A full week: SNL-style. If you live here and need this info in a desperate way, holla.

Favorite lyrics from Poets so far. And if you’re not a Swiftie or hate Swifties or hate happiness and joy, skip on down, bruh.

“And I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free” (So Long, London. OMG.)

“Don’t you worry folks, we took out all her teeth.” (Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? Whoa.)

“My boredom’s bone deep, this cage was once just fine, am I allowed to cry?” (Guilty as Sin? just obsessed.)

I could go on and on. Those stick out, and I know I’m forgetting some very important ones. Like the way she changes from love of your life to LOSS of your life. Died dead. So sad. So good.

I’ll come back with more next week. Yay! Yay?

…hello?

Also who here thinks she’ll add a Poets set to Eras? YES I’ve seen the video shorts. It looks like it! But what would she cut? Like how do you cut anything out? You can’t. Can you? I mean she?

And did you see her in that KU sweatshirt? Did you about pee right out of your face? That and the Chiefs pickleball paddle? Everyone in my orbit lost their sh*ts.

Never mind, we can move on.

Maybe.

Weekend plans?

It’s going to raaaaaain rain rain rianrianriaian. And I have a race on Sunday morning, so – yay? If the rain shifts and changes its mind, we’ll have a soccer game tonight, a fun brewery outing with friends right after, a sleepover, more gardening tomorrow (I need my climbing vines in, man!), an outdoor hang with more friends tomorrow evening, and the race on Sunday. But uh, storms. We’ll see.

From this week::: I have a sweepstakes happening right now with Sumo Citrus and Farmhouse Pottery. Check it! Also a Fennel and Parsley Salad from yesterday. The blog post went down, so I put it back up without most of the copy. I have no idea what’s happening lately. To be honest, I’m having a hard time keeping up the motivation for this blog, but that’s another story. Another woe. Another pity party. Not today! Here’s the video for that, too.

Okay, Vail lovers. Spill it!

I’m more familiar with Aspen than Vail, but absolutely recommend summer whitewater rafting and hiking above the timberline! If you hike to the top of the gondola in Aspen you can ride down for free, maybe vail is the same. Go to all the food and music festivals you can find.
