Friday Flotsam

FRRRRRRRRRRRRlotdaysomefri! Or something like that.

I finally made a reel!

(I felt your collective groan.)

Technically, I made two reels. One that is just horrible, and one slightly more tolerable.

But they’re fun! You guys I have resisted for SO LONG. This grumpy grandma did not want to get with the times. Well, in a plot twist, it turns out that I actually do like them (having a new phone with updated technology doesn’t hurt). And I plan on making loads of little moody and/or funny atmospheric shorts. LOADS. So get ready. No reely, get ready. Ha!

Never mind.

Let’s try this again: I desperately need a deep conditioner for my hair.

Something that softens, takes out the bulk, gives it shine, and unloads the dishwasher.

I bought this one not long ago, and while it’s a leave-in spray (and I like it!), I need something to apply in the shower for the more heavy lifting. Does Ms. Ess have another conditioner that’s worth looking into?

What do you use for taming 150 grit sandpaper scarecrow horse pube broom hair?

Help me.

While we’re at it, what was the VERY FIRST movie you remember seeing in the theater?

Mine was Karate Kid 2. Not the first one, the second one. Did I see the first one? I have no idea. But I sure did see Karate Kid 2 in the theater in the summer of 1986 with my brand new best friend Heather Lozano and her mom Dora.

I may have seen another movie in the theater before the summer of 1986, but I have no recollection. THAT was the first movie experience that meant something. That stood for something. Growing up! Away from mom! With my best friend Heather who wore plastic cones in her ponytail!

Tell me yours while I google “Ralph Macchio now”.

(who else adds the “now” when googling someone? I see you.)

I can tell the winter antsies are in full effect because I just bought clear milk jugs to replace all the milk and juice containers in the fridge.

That’s right, I decided it was just “too much” to look at all those busy containers cluttering up the top shelf. Now the milk and orange juice and grapefruit juice and green juice will all have their own beautiful glass jug.

Look, last year I WALLPAPERED the microwave, so you can’t tell me this is an irrational move.

I should make a reel! Ha!

Never mind.

Weekend plans?

It snowed 55 feet here yesterday, so we’re staying cozy.(but it also means the kids were home yesterday and today for snow days and the weekend because weekend and Monday for Presidents Day and Tuesday for “professional learning day” so is it too early for a mimosa?) I do have plans to get out and meet some mom friends up the block later this evening, if I can shovel my minivan out and drive the three minutes to her house. You know I’ll be making a reel! Ha!

Never mind.

From this week, in case you missed it: Seared Salmon Burgers! Listen to me right now, these are painfully simple and such a fun twist on burger night, please give it a hard go. And Creamy Parmesan Chicken Meatballs with Egg Noodles. Another weeknight winner with so much flavor you will weep for a month. Add both of these recipes to your rotation pronto. You won’t be mad at me.

How many days until spring again? Ay yi yi.

I like the Briogeo Don't Despair Repair deep conditioner. But I'm always on the hunt for other options so I'll be checking back :)

Amika Soulfood Nourishing Hair Mask is what I'm using now and really like it. A Virtue conditioner is on my list to try next because I love their shampoo.

Try olaplex. It’s pricy but lives up to the hype. You don’t need a lot of product either. First movie, Splash with my sister. Probably not completely appropriate for my age but I was THRILLED!

my hair is total horse bush pubes also, so i'm curious what you land on! My first movie was either Footloose or Beverly Hills Cop. we had my mom hiding out in the car in case we couldn't get in, but of course i'm as tall now, as i was at 13 so i looked like an adult, so we didn't need her!

Another vote for Olaplex. Pricey but worth it for sure. And I'm not sure what the first movie I saw in a theater is but the first movie I saw in a theater WITHOUT my parents or some form of a parental guardian was Mermaids. I was ten and my mom dropped me and a friend off and we might as well have had our own apartment we felt so grown up.

Mermaids was just pure perfection. Cher, Wynona, Christina, Christian......legends.

Horse pube broom hair?? You never cease to crack me up ? and it describes my hair pretty perfectly! Will be checking back for recommendations. I’m one of your older followers so the first movie I remember seeing in the theater is The Sound of Music and it will forever be my favorite.

The one I remember is Blackboard Jungle, 1955 it was in the don't see list in the Catholic Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island, I was 13 and I made my 9-year-old brother go with me, I don't think my mother ever knew. I know I must have seen other movies before that but that one sticks in my mind.

So I use olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Then when I style it I use davines Ol All in One Milk...this is my fav thing in the whole world. It let's me brush my hair. I also use the olapex oil and the leave in cream from them too. I have the hair treatment as well..lol sorry sounds a big obsessive. But I love their products.

Ralph Maccio is in a Netflix series that my boys are really enjoying that is a continuation of the Karate Kid saga-- Cobra Kai. He's aged really well and hardly looks all that different. I remember seeing Annie at the theater when I was quite little with my sister and grandmother (I'm pretty sure I fell asleep and didn't make it to the end though).

The first movie I saw in theaters was Lion King. I was four or five, and my mom took me. I was terrified as I thought actual real hyenas were going to be just wandering around the theater (apparently I was super chill about the idea of lions wandering around the theatre, but it was a no for me on the hyenas). We loved the movie and sang circle of life the whole way home and when we got home there was a bat in the garage and my mom and I both screamed as if the hyenas had in fact found us and decided to attack until my dad came out and got the bat to leave the garage. Big night for me and one of my most vivid childhood memories.

When I read "horse pubes" I literally spit my drink out. You've always had a way with words, Bev. As far as my first movie memory, mine was Land Before Time. We had a dollar movie theater near my house. They only had two screens and would only play movies that had already been released to video. Even though a ticket only cost $1, we would naturally go to Eckerd's beforehand to buy candy to sneak in. I'm fairly confident this was my gateway for sneaking into the back door of theaters in my teenage years. Nevertheless, I grew up to be a law-abiding citizen somehow.
