Kitchen Renovation: Part KILL ME NOW.

You guuuuuuuys. I have forgotten how to cook. I don’t know this to be a true fact just yet, but I was watching my line-up of PBS cooking shows this morning and as I sat on my couch, pouring half a gallon of coffee into my head, I realized that all I know how to do anymore is press some buttons on a little square in my hand and say things like, “Yeah, I’ll have a large pizza with 3 pounds of bbq, a side of chicken tacos and let’s make it two bottles of wine. No, let’s go with ten.”

But we’re making progress! Renovations always teach me 4 things.

1) It takes way longer than you think.

2) It costs way more than you think.

3) It takes way longer than you think.

4) It costs way more than you think.

But I’m holding on for more one day… because things are gonna go my way.

But first! A quick tour:

Here’s Aaron drilling my floating shelves in.

DRILL, BABY, DRILL.

(that grossed me out, too.)

I told them we should just leave the wall that way and I was immediately escorted out of the room.

SQA-UEAL.

We all did a little dance once these shelves were in. And by we I mean totally not them and totally only me.

Check out my new recessed light! I know it looks wonk to the jonk right now, but after we (they) paint, it will have this nice little stainless rim around it.

Are you bored?

Eric left his John Deere trucker hat at home, so I let him borrow mine.

I’m just kidding.

See the haze of death in this photo? This same haze lines my mouth cavity right now. It’s so awesome.

I guess they deserve a break or whatever.

This drill bit worked SO HARD.

It is a drill bit, isn’t it?

Here’s Eric cutting the trim with a machine that makes me cry a little.

LOOK how posh this trim is! It’s way taller than normal trim. This trim has an ego. This trim is the captain of the football team. This trim is dating the head cheerleader.

Oh and here are my shadow boxes!

YA MADE ME A SHAAADOWBOXER, BABY. I WANNA BE READY FOR WHAT. YOU. DO-OO.

(sorry)

More poshy posh trim. It’s not bolted into the wall yet, STOP FREAKING.

Oh by the way, Olive says hi.

And Aaron says hi, too. This is his Michael Showalter face.

And here’s Er—OH! OH CRAP. OH MY WORD.

OH.

And Charlie says hi.

She’s the cleanest of us all. Not even kidding.

We're starting to consider a major kitchen remodel involving ripping out the wall separating the family room. Thanks for sharing the unglamorous reality. I'm not so sure how it would work with 2 and 4 year olds who constantly need things from the kitchen... I SOOOOOOO can't wait to see the end result of your kitchen though - it's going to be FAB!

Not only does it cost more and take longer, it gets you closer to divorce court than ever before. Ok, LOL I should speak for myself but neither my husband or I are handy so just putting together an Ikea bookshelf will drive us both to drink. Lol

So that pizza, bbq, and chicken tacos with 10 bottles of wine sounds pretty great. Maybe I should do my own kitchen renovation!

I was already loving this post and then you started singing Fiona Apple. Ahh! I got a ticket to her show in KC this July, so excited! Anyway. Your floating shelves are looking mighty fine. Can't wait to see your finished kitchen!

I would gladly share a bottle (or five) of wine with you to help preserve what is left of your sanity. But with it looking that damn adorable in the end, I can see it now, all that lack of sanity will be well worth it.

I just finished my basement recently and it was a year of lots of dust all through the house with loud banging noise and construction people in my house all the time. I feel for you. I think you have it harder since yours is in your kitchen and there is no escaping it except for leaving the house. Hang in there, it will be done one day.

Having spent my entire marriage with a contractor where we always bought the ugly house and make it beautiful....you have my understanding and sympathies. I remember being pregnant with our 2nd child and my husband announced..."I'm going to remove the entire back of the house and move the stairs and expand the kitchen and the master bedroom"....ok I said. And then about the time the morning sickness kicked in I had no kitchen and would put my plastic tub in the bathtub to to the dishes. I was so sad not to have an oven for 2 months that I made choc chip cookies in an electric fry pan.... FYI, don't do that! You will be so happy once the dust has cleared. I really enjoy watching the progress! There is hope, drink some wine. :) Denise

A kitchen renovation is certainly a pain and you're right- usually takes longer than expected! It's important to plan ahead as much as possible and allow for some wiggle room in the budget in case a new issue arises.

I am in love with your floating shelves. I wish I had room for some. Maybe I could tell hubs that I want to knock out the back wall and extend the kitchen onto the deck area ; ) What's one more project tacked on to the reno right ; ) He'd love that LOL

We are staying in a pirate room ( I know you’ve cautioned against those but my 5 year old son LOVES pirates.) we are checking in May 1st. I was pretty specific when asking if there would be construction and the cast member assured me that the construction would be at the neighboring Riviera but not at Carribbean. I got the email a few weeks ago and called again and was told, “you know the construction at Caribbean is done, right?” From looking at the pictures- it seems like that is not the case. And of course, there’s nothing in moderates open for our dates at this point.

One of the most important things we can do (and should do) is to get our estate plan in place. Just like other important life tasks, our estate plan deserves our time and attention. This is very helpful to us.bodrum kos feribot

Home improvement is plumbing and electrical work. Upgrading or repairing plumbing systems, such as fixing leaks, replacing old pipes, or installing new fixtures, can improve water efficiency and prevent potential damage. Similarly, electrical improvements, like updating wiring, adding outlets, or installing energy-efficient lighting, not only enhance safety but also provide convenience and modernize the home's electrical infrastructure.การ์ดแต่งงาน

Financing home improvement projects is an important consideration for many homeowners. Depending on the scale and complexity of the project, costs can vary significantly. Some homeowners may choose to save money over time to fund larger projects, while others may explore financing options such as home equity loans, lines of credit, or personal loans. Proper budgeting and planning are essential to ensure that the project stays within financial means.การ์ดแต่งงาน

The financial aspect of home improvement is worth mentioning. While some projects can be costly, they often result in a significant return on investment. Renovations that boost a home's functionality, energy efficiency, or curb appeal can substantially increase its resale value. Therefore, home improvement is not only about immediate gratification but also a wise financial decision for homeowners looking to build equity in their properties.painter parramatta

The residential sector of real estate encompasses single-family homes, condominiums, apartments, and townhouses, catering to diverse housing needs and preferences. Demand for residential properties is influenced by factors such as population growth, household formation, and lifestyle trends. In urban areas, the scarcity of land often drives up property prices, leading to a competitive market environment. Conversely, suburban and rural regions may offer more affordable housing options, attracting buyers seeking larger homes or a quieter lifestyle.skilled tradies
