Friday Flotsam

FRRRRrrrrrrri ha-day-ya.

Did you see Arkansas BEAT GONZAGA LAST NIGHT?

Did you see that?

They beat Gonzaga!

FLOORED. It ruined my Final Four but I don’t even care because that’s amazing.

Also I’ve been saying it like this the entire time: Gon-zah-ga. Like Julie Andrews I guess. And it’s Gon-ZAG (like zig zag)-ga. How is it that I get every single pronunciation wrong? Like all the words. Wrong.

Now AR is up against Duke on Saturday night and well, we’ll see.

Just how ruined is your bracket?

POOOOOLLLLLLLAH::::

Have you ever seen cheese in a Bloody Mary?

Cheese. Like a cube or chunk of cheese on a toothpick bobbing at the top of a Bloody Mary? Have you ever seen this? My friend posted a photo of his Bloody Mary on Facebook yesterday and it had cheese in (on) it and I swear the world exploded. People’s heads fell off. Mine included. And allllll the comments were equal parts horrified and intrigued.

Me? Obviously into it. I just didn’t know this was a thing. And I’ve been to a Bloody Mary bar a time or two in my life and never have I seen cheese as a condiment. Not once.

So naturally I commented and he said he normally has pepper jack as the chosen cheese, but on this particular day all he had was cheddar. And I just feel like a whole new world opened up for us, you guys. Aladdin style.

Cheese on a Bloody.

Do you do this?

We’re doing this.

Speaking of, this is a cheeseless pizza. You do know the two aliens I live with, right?

I’m sincerely apologize putting you through looking at a photo of a pizza with no cheese.

Apparently the Bloody Mary stole it. Ha!

Oh.

Hey, I’d love some recipe ideas for spring, if you have any. It’s a lone, sad tumbleweed up there right now. I desperately need some inspo. The weather was cold and rainy all week (which I love but I’m over it) and these wheels are rusted and creaky. Halp!

(you can tell I have no real topics today, can’t you? besides cheese in a Bloody! on it.)

Weekend plans?

Taxes meeting this morning (<–this is where my head is right now), hosting some friends tonight, KU tonight (!), seeing more friends tomorrow, longing for the warmth again, finishing What Alice Forgot (so obsessed), getting some seeds in the garden beds and hoping nothing freezes!

Oh and – sticking some cheese in a Bloody.

From this week::: Chicken and Broccoli Pizzas! A few shortcuts make it embarrassingly simple to whip up tonight. And, Gnocchi with Bacon and Peas! Another cinch dinner that you’ll love forever.

Tell me what book is on your nightstand.

I live in Wisconsin, so cheese on a Bloody Mary is not not weird at all! Try smoked string cheese. Amazing. Also, there's a bar here in Milaukee that serves a while fried chicken on a Bloody. Yep.

Yes, this! Also common to see things like pickles, spicy peppers, beef sticks, etc....

No bracket here, so not busted :). But I am happy Duke won last night. Like I said last week, I hope they go all the way. I have seen ALL sorts of things on skewers in a Bloody Mary so I may have seen cheese. I don't drink them so there's that. Total wino here with an occasional beer when it's hot out. Currently reading "Once Upon a Time, There Was You" by Elizabeth Berg. So far, I'm into it. I think I've read "What Alice Forgot" but I'm the worst at remembering a lot of the books I read. I get into them and then forget about them. ADHD at its finest!! Happy weekend!

Current book: What Could Be Saved by Liese O'Halloran Schwarz and so far really good! Suspenseful but not too dark 👌🏼

Reading Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter. Happy hour at Extra Virgin tonight to celebrate a friend's birthday. Simmering beef right now for Quesabirria tacos on Sunday. Hopefully getting outside to see what's happening after all of that much needed rain.

Reading "Better Luck Next Time" set in the 1930s at a fancy dude ranch near Reno where rich ladies hang out for 6 weeks waiting for their divorces to go through. Very fun! Loved "What Alice Forgot." Asparagus soup with a little mint is a spring favorite of mine.

I am currently reading "Katharine Parr, The Sixth Wife" by Alison Weir...SO Good! I don't have a bracket, but I have definitely seen cheese on top of a Bloody Mary, yum. Have a great weekend!

I've never had a Bloody with cheese but I'm in! Spring recipe: Saute asparagus (cut into 1" lengths), about 1/4 C. sliced green onions, 2 minced garlic cloves in about 2 T Butter and 2 T olive oil. Add in small fresh or frozen peas, a splash of dry white wine, lemon zest and juice, a pinch of red pepper flakes if you like spicy, add baby (salad type) shrimp. Stir until shrimp are heated through then toss in cooked pasta (egg noodles are especially good here). Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and parm. Quick and easy and it screams SPRING with all the freshness.

This sounds amazing! I think I've made a similar recipe but it had some added milk and I didn't like that nearly as much as milk makes my eczema flare up.

I currently have 3 books on my nightstand (and am part-way through them all): 1. Love & Saffron: A novel of friendship, food, and love. A cute little back and forth letter writing story between two women during the 1960's centering around food and current events. 2. Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover. Kenna has just gotten out of prison after a mistake that killed her boyfriend, she gave birth while in jail and wants to reconnect with her daughter. 3. The Paid Bridesmaid (though technically this is on my Kindle and plugged into an outlet on my desk across the room). A women has a job acting as maid of honor for women who want less drama and someone to help them control their weddings but when the best man is very interested and starts asking tough questions the gig might be up.

I didn’t know people didn’t put cheese in a Bloody Mary… pepper jack is great, any smoked cheese, a blue cheese stuffed olive on that Bloody Mary skewer is to die for. My MIL and I agree a good hunk of Brie in your bloody is the way to go. If I had to choose between cheese on a pizza or cheese in a Bloody Mary my brain would explode. I really love a good cheese. A very kind woman I met in yoga recently brought me two books from her shelf!! The Once and Future Witches and Cloud Cuckoo Land. Can’t wait to start them as soon as I finish the first in the Cork O’Connor series.

I appreciate this post for the well-researched web content as well as outstanding phrasing. I got so entailed in this material that I couldn't stop reviewing.

Wow, this post is a whirlwind of sports surprises and Bloody Mary revelations! The Arkansas game? Total upset! And cheese in a Bloody Mary—honestly, that’s a game-changer! Why haven’t we tried this before? Gotta experiment with pepper jack next time.
