Monthly Mixtape: Sun Slants and Long Pants

Can we just take a moment to realize that 2021 is basically over?

Sort of.

In a way.

We’re in the ‘Embers tomorrow and we all know it’s a slippery slope from here. Apples, pumpkins, candy, turkey, pine clippings, gift wrap, SNOW.

We don’t have to talk about it though. I can sense you’re having mini panic attack shat spurts in your soul. (<–it’s a thing.)

How about we talk about this mixtape! It’s a day early, only because I don’t have any food for you today. This is actually my grand week of “getting back to normal.” Shooting regularly, climbing out of this obnoxious funk, finding the joy in food creation again, remembering my place in this tiny slice of interwebz. CORRECT, I never really get Eeyore-like on this blog, because it’s just not in my nature to bring on the ho-hum. I do that privately. And I don’t really have a point with all this, only to let you know I’m cracking open inspiration-station (<–sorry) however I possibly can and ALL WILL BE GOOD.

This playlist! You know, there’s no real theme. But there is a vibe. Which you’re definitely welcome to dropkick me in the boob for saying. It’s slightly ’80s electronic swirl heavy, with Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, etc. A bit moody with Hannah Cohen’s dreamy vocals and Air’s nostalgic ethereal heart yanks. (You can’t not love the Virgin Suicides soundtrack. You cannot.) A little head bobby with G. Love’s sexy talk/sing style. (I kissed him once. Story for another day.)

The mix is mostly older songs, with only a sprinkle of current. Which is mainly my style, so just love it. (also, bonus points to those who can point out a very specific Ace Ventura moment in this.)

It’s a fantastically fun mixtape! It’ll put you in a good mood to do anything. Have it on in the background, throw it on on your next road trip, play it now. It all works.
