Monthly Mixtape: Soothing Strings and Whispering Winds

We made it to the ‘Embers! Which in COVID time is like, three showers? (lil’ Colbert humor there for ya.)

I know I say this every month, but I truly mean this every month – THIS IS MY FAVORITE MIXTAPE YET.

Why? Well a) this type of playlist is laaaaaawng overdue on this blog and life. B) School starts in a week and they’ll be here in this house (still) and I desperately need the mental massage. And c) we’re doing our VERY.FIRST music and book pairing! (wine sold separately.)

Yes, it’s classical music time.

This is a huge, huge deal, you guys. It’s not actually, but we’re in a pandemic so by default it’s a mega mama thrilling situation. MAJ.

EXTRA.

Never mind.

My friend/bestie/reading partner-in-crime Ashlee came up with the idea to do a classical music/book pairing after I asked you all if you listen to classical music whilst reading. Lots and lots said YES OF COURSE I listen to “something” while reading. I don’t know what “something” is, but I’ve got your “something” right here. It’s a divinely calming classical music playlist that will transcend your mood and tickle your heartstrings within the first half measure. Nothing too well known. Nothing too aggressive or Baroque. Nothing too dentist office-y. (now I got ya) An hour and a half of pure ear velvet while you read. Or clean the house. Or sit in a dark bathroom with a Sancerre and a locked door. Look, I’m not here to judge.

The book we’re pairing with this playlist? Duh, Jane Austen of course!

PERSUASION.

(You guys I’ve never read it. Please try to not throw your laptop into oncoming traffic or a nearby lake.)

So, if you’d like to join the party (you obviously do), download it, hit up Amazon, peruse a bookshop, bum from your neighbor’s haunted library (WE ALL HAVE ONE), and let’s do this.

Honestly, you could listen to this emotionally tranquilizing mixtape while reading a dusty pamphlet on how to install a dishwasher hose and you’d still be a step ahead of everyone else.

Without another word, I give you . . . The “Soothing Strings and Whispering Winds” Mix. Trust me, this is exactly what you need this month and year and life.

Girl you know where all my mixtapes are. Get on in them.

Beautiful. Thank you for reminding me to listen to more instrumental/classical music. Turned this on during dinner and played long into a gorgeous sunset and evening.
