I had to double check that like thrice to make sure everything was spelled right. And of course nothing was.

POLL: Do you use your bath mat strictly as a bath mat, OR an area rug? Meaning, do you drape it over the tub edge whilst not partaking in shower time, or do you leave it on the bathroom floor allst the time?

See, until this past Monday, the 13th week into my 39th year of existence, I’ve always thought of the beloved mat as an area rug. It’s a part of the family, right? It deserves all the foot traffic, just like the rest of the house, right? It cozies up the little space, right? It keeps your lil’ tootsies and toesies good and toasty in the middle of the night when you have to pee for the 57th time, right?

WRONG.

It has now just clicked in mah brain that every single house I visit has their bath mat slung over the tub edge, to keep it from getting dirty. Is this truly the way of the world?! How have I never really thought of it that way before? (don’t answer that)

So I tried it this week, as evidenced in the above photo with carpet-burn Willy, and I’m not sure what I think. The room feels a little empty. A little cold. A little depressed. You know what, SO WHAT if I have to wash my bath mats more often, right? Who cares?!

That’s it. The bath mat comes back! That thing’s gonna work overtime this winter, BRA. I’m already so excited.

*I’d like to point out that I have never and will not ever again call my darling Will WILLY. I felt it was appropriate in the sentence. You may barf now.

Speaking of area rugs in general, guess what sadness is in my life. Just guess.

Aaron hates them. Absolutely loathes area rugs to a blood red-seeing degree. So much that he won’t let me buy any! He thinks they’re death pockets for toddler crumbs, Satan traps for dog hair, and evil door-jamming conspirators that want nothing more than to trip him in the night and knock out all his teeth.

Whatever.

I think they’re LOVELY, darn it. And I’m dying for a giant ivory basket weave jute rug for our living room, like this! But it will never happen, you guys. I’ve come to the dark realization that it’s time to let the dream die.

ORRRR roofies?

Have you ever noticed how in the drawn cartoon versions of lil’ Orphan Annie, she has NO EYES? Like, the oval circles are there, but she has no pupils or anything. What creepy pedo illustrator decided to draw her like that? All the other characters in the books have eyes! Pretty, detailed eyelashes, nice tear drop eye shapes, lovely windows to the soul, blah blah blah, and then there’s Annie. Poor soulless Annie!

Her eyes look like windows to a hangover.

These are the things I think about. Hold me in your prayers.

So yesterday Miss Nat got to model for a kids clothing line with her best buds, Stella and Theo! Will would have, too, only they needed one toddler boy and one toddler girl, so Theo and Nat got the roles. You won’t believe the amount of time it took them to shoot EIGHT outfits (each!) of clothing. LESS THAN FOUR HOURS. w a t.

All the grownups were practically in tears at this magical feat of unheard of. . .ness.

That might have been the coffee, though.

The shoot was for their summer collection, so we won’t see anything for a bit. But I’ll let you know when the photos are live!

Also, if you need me, I’ll be moving into Amanda’s house for the rest of ever.

Weekend plans!? We’re having our besties over tonight for a cozy night in by the fire. Slow cooker chicken tikka masala, wine, chut-a-ney (said like Schmidt), and hilar convo.

I think tomorrow I’ll refine my wishlis- I MEAN the babies’ wish lists, before I send them off to the grans.

Speaking of, what’s on your wish list?! Is it cool to even talk about this yet? I’m leaning towards to an enormo YES.

Then on Sunday we’re headed to a big Friendsgiving feast on our good friends’ farm! I’m making . . . wait for it . . . THE NO-KNEAD BREAD. Seriously, you’re welcome to punch me right smack in the face.

If I didn't have two high shedding fur babies (they are dogs, in case you thought I had hairy children), I would like area rugs. But I agree with your husband, carpet of any form is a Satan trap for dog hair. Motherloads of dog hair.

We always keep the bathroom rugs down on the floor, all the time. After switching to memory foam mats, I'll never go back. It's like standing on pillows while you get ready & no freezing tile toes!!

I grew up in a bathmat-on-the-tub house, but in my grown up house we keep it down 100% of the time. Actually we have 2 mats, 1 on the tub side or the room and another on the sink side. Who wants to stand on cold tiles?????

Those succulents are amazing! Are they yours? Will they survive the winter? I have the hardest time with houseplants, especially during the dark months. But I love them so!! Anyhoo team bathroom rugs on the floor!

On the floor, all the time, throw a different one down while cleaning the normal ones...I hate hate hate cold toes. I agree, I didn't know that anyone took the time or had the desire to gracefully drape the rug across the tub.

The area where my bathmat would land means that when yer sitting on the toilet your feet (most of the time with shoes on) would be smack dab in the middle of that bathmat. So in my mind it's disgusting to allow your pristine post shower feet to be standing on the same mat that has dirty ass shoes on it. However I agree that the room looks cold without it, but until I become rich and get a house with a massive bathroom it stays as is. On the general area rug topic, holy crap why do men hate rugs??? My hub does too. But he's also not the one who winds up doing double duty of sweeping THEN wet swiffering just to get the wood floors clean. argh

I have a bath mat that is towel material that I use when I'm getting out of the shower and it hangs over the tub (as ew if its not dry by the next time I go to use it) and a fuzzy floor mat to stand on so that my toes don't freeze and fall off on the bathroom floor.

Yes, Angela, that's what we do. I guess it depends on how big your bathroom is. The bath mat towel thingy gets changed a lot and drapes over the tub to dry. We have thick ruggy things that are there for cold feet, like in front of the sink .

I thought the "mats" that go over the tub were those shorter, smaller, thicker towel type mats. Those kind I can see always going over the tub. Actual rugs go on the floor, at least in my bathrooms. And I need to know more about that succulent thing. If you made it, please do a DIY post!

Our bathroom rugs are out on the floor always! We have ceramic tile that gets cold in the winter so I've been known to scootch the rug from spot to spot so I don't have to stand on that freezing tile. :P

I have a bath mat that is draped over the tub when not being used for wet feet and I also always have a bathroom rug down. Some bath mats slip and slide around if they don't have a rubber backing to them and that can be dangerous.

That tikka masala recipe is SO GOOD. I did a post on it a couple months ago, gah. I also made it again last week, but I said "yolo" and put a whole can of coconut milk in there. Just as good, I hate having a weird extra amount of coconut milk in the fridge. Just no. PS. I always leave my bath mat on the floor. :)

Bath mat on the floor for me. How will it ever dry if its covered with my shower curtain?? Or am I thinking about it wrong? Either way, its a floor mat, not a side of the tub mat!

Tea collection is amazing! There's a store near me that sells it. THE Cutest! (Of course I love when items go on clearance and final sale and I get a good deal!)

Very interesting about the bath mats, Bev. I have always left them on the floor all the time (except for when it gets washed which is like, basically never, is that gross?) UNTIL I bought a fancy stupid white bath mat and that thing gets so dirty just sitting there, I don't even know. We never even use that shower! I think the dog must sneak in there and stomp around on it. So that particular dumb rug is always on the side of the tub unless a guest is actively showering and even then I'm yelling through the door at them like, "Did you wash your feet good? Make sure you wash your feet good before you step on the mat!"

Ha - I am in the midst of making "THE BREAD". Going on 20 hours and have to go and do the next stage. Poor Willy with the carpet burn!! And, is that toilet enormous is it just the angle? I left my response to the bath mat trauma earlier. Can't wait for the bread!!

Oooo let me know how it turns out! You will LOVE IT.

I grew up with rugs on the bathroom floor 100% of the time and always enjoyed warm tooties! However, now my bathroom is small and the mat is too, but putting it over the side of the tub actually makes the space look bigger. And, I definitely noticed how much less I have to clean it. So my tooties are chilly, but it makes me care less about the compromise of my small bathroom to have this otherwise GREAT rental!! Its the little things sometimes.

I am way behind on this but wanted to weigh in on the poll. I drape mine over the tub but I totally understand wanting to keep your toes cold as well. I am with Jennifer though, my bathroom now is tiny and it just looks more put together and larger without it on the floor. Growing up we had area rugs and bath mats in the bathroom so the bath mat didn't have to pull double duty. And can we talk about that succulent tree? box? Jungle? that is happening in the photo up there? How do I get me one of those?!
