Friday Flotsam

Frrrrrrrrrrra! da!

So I have a plan.

A grand master of plan of the ultimate in psychological trickery.

I’m painting my fridge.

Hold on, listen.

For those of you who’ve not followed along with the fridge obnoxiousness – I blame Covid. We ordered a new refrigerator in J U L Y, and each time we get close to the delivery time, we get an email that it’s been delayed another month or so. I’m not alone in this, so many of you have appliance orders that are slowed down because of Covid. I get it. It’s an odd time and I’m whiney. Well, our next delivery date is next Friday the 18th, but I wrote my contact dude and he gently and gingerly told me to expect another delay because it’s not even in their warehouse yet. I stayed cool.

But I’m painting my fridge. Because if I paint my fridge, the fridge will arrive, you see.

It’s just like when you order food at a restaurant, and it’s taking forever to get to the table, so you go to the restroom KNOWING THE FOOD WILL BE THERE WHEN YOU GET BACK. That’s all I’m doing, really. Painting = peeing.

I’m just fine, why do you ask?

YES I’M LISTENING TO EVERLORE.

Actually, I can’t listen to singing while I type. Are you the same? I cannot concentrate. I get hung on the lyrics and forget what I’m typing, so I only listen to instrumental whilst writing a blog post. But I did listen to the first three songs this morning while making my coffee and imagining painting my fridge, and I like it! I need a more solid deep dive later today while wrapping gifts. I hope it’s the EXACT SAME whimsical, dreamy mood as Folklore. Plus maybe some tinsel.

Is it?

Have you listened?

You’re like, “She knows it’s not Everlore, right?”

Shhhhhh.

Okay, I need one more Christmas book suggestion.

Finished Comfort and Joy last night and – meh. Thing is, I LOVE Kristin Hannah. But this one was a bit of an odd snooze fest. It had some fuzzy moments, but they honestly felt a little forced, which is bizarre to come out of my mouth hole because you know I love forced fuzz, don’t get me wrong. But, meh.

Diving into This Christmas tonight, which will take less than a week. Give me another holiday book! You know you have the goods.

Speaking of, give us a good baking idea! Last weekend we made these stuffed with this and they were divine. I was shocked. And now I feel like deeming every Saturday BAKING DAY because I need yet another thing.

I’m feeling some sort of rustic bread or chocolate loaf or cheesy log or all of that together. Got any ideas?

Weekend plans?

Same ol’ same ol’ on this end. Besides some fridge painting VOODOO.

Wrapping gifts, Everlore deep dive, building a gingerbread hizz, watching Holidate (is it so lame?), reading, early bedtimes, dreadmill sesh, and shooting some yummy cheesy biscuit twists for ya! Just you wait, ‘Enry ‘Iggins, just you wait.

From this week, in case you missed it and/or ignored it::: Seared Shrimp and Pineapple with Coconut Rice! Crazy simple and sort of summery in flavor. Get in that. And then a Bagel and Sausage Breakfast Casserole! Comfort for days and beyond exquisite for Christmas morning.

The fridge will be white and gold, dare you even ask?

Wait! Are you really going to paint your frig? If so, how? Is that something people really do, like painting kitchen cabinets to change up the look or update? I feel.ike you really left me hanging here!?

Oh indeed! Appliance paint. This plus some brass paint for the handles. Hold me in your prayers.

I painted my generic white laminate cabinets navy blue. If I can do that, and I’m a terrible painter, a fridge should be easy! Make sure you prime the handles. I just had to touch mine up because I didn’t prime them and the nickel was starting to show through on the high use drawers.

Please update us on the painting of the fridge! We had our dryer go out a couple months ago and just ordered a new washer and dryer so they’d match (both were in rough shape). We had to just order the one set that we could get immediately because who can live without those? Why are appliances still so hard to get??

Please show us how your fridge turns out! I think it's a great idea and will probably make your new one arrive in time for Christmas. Holidate was fun because it wasn't just a about Christmas but included Allllll the holidays. Predictable ending but isn't that what we all need right now? Yes, yes it is!!

Loving Evermore!! Good luck with the fridge...I know it’ll be beautiful!! Chicken pot pie for dinner...freezing basil harvest...and jalapeño relish are on the weekend plans!

Totally agree about Comfort and Joy. I have loved all of Kristin Hannah's books (Faves: Winter Garden, Great Alone, NIGHTINGALE!!! <3) but this one was so weird.

I painted my fridge years ago with that exact paint - it STINNNNNKS to high heaven, but it is fairly foolproof, and the fridge turned out fantastic. Really, I was shocked. Totally even finish, no chipping or anything for at least a year, got us over the hump till we replaced it! Good luck!

I feel your pain. I ordered my GE Café Matte White fridge the first week of June. GE and/or my salesperson gave up trying to give me delivery guestimates in September. My old fridge has been living in my garage since my kitchen renovation began and ended. So far, I have refused to allow it back into the house. But, if your magic trick works, I may have to haul that dinosaur from 1992 back into the house and see if this sorcery will work for me too! Please keep us posted!

Holidate. I was a big fan. Very rom-com-y, but funny, not cheesy. Predicable in spots but a good use of 1.5 hours for sure. Also, I’m so intrigued to see the end result of this fridge painting!!

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Read it out loud as a fam. It’s great. The kids will love it and it’s not super long. I loaned it to my mother in law three years ago and she never gave it back. Miss seeing you in person!

My daughter painted her fridge with chalk paint and let the kids do art on it. At first I wasn’t a huge fan but it grew on me. Do you baby!
