Friday Flotsam

FREEEFRAAAFROOOOFRUUUUUfriday.

kids and dirt. and feet.

WHEN DID TACO BELL GET SO EXPENSIVE? (Why am I yelling.)

No but, when did Taco Bell get on board with normal rip-off prices? I’ve always relied on the TB for the dirtiest, cheapiest tacos, and I mourn that that era is behind us.

Get this, we spent nearly FIFTEEN DOLLARS at Taco Bell the other day! Mind you, I’ve not been to the TB in about 2 years, which was probably my first mistake.

$15!!! Doesn’t that seem like a small fortune in Taco Bell speak? And all we got was two chicken quesadillas, two regular tacos, and a double decker taco. Zero drinks. Sumpin’ ain’t RIGHT. Right?

I know you’re like, “Well did you look at the receipt, you psycho analyzer that needs to simmer down about TACO BELL.”

No, I didn’t. It’s fine.

I just feel like in 1998 it would have been $7 bucks for all that grub. Extra hot sauce, please.

That’s all. I can move on.

rosé and rocks and flowers

My hand soap is demon possessed.

. . . Hold on, let me back up.

When we got back from our road trip to Arkansas on Tuesday evening, our house was soooooo hot. You know how it is when you walk into your house after travel? Everything smells stale, it’s humid and damp, the garbage can reeks, the lawns looks like the Jungle Book, you want to cry.

Well, our house seemed especially hot this time. So hot that it took nearly three entire hours to cool down. You’re like, GET TO THE SOAP.

So I went to wash my hands, and my hand soap was hot. Like, physically hot! TO-THE-TOUCH HOT. I thought, “Wow, this hand soap is hot. That’s really weird. Surely it’s because the house got so warm with us gone. I bet it will cool down after a while. I want fried chicken.”

But . . . it never cooled down. It is STILL HOT. So hot that I keep asking Aaron to come wash his hands with this soap so that he can see if it’s as hot to him as it is to me. I FEEL LIKE I’M TAKING CRAZY PILLS. (<–name that movie.)

I finally convinced him to try the hot hand soap and LISTEN – last night he looked at me with a perplexed gaze and said, “This hand soap has a warming sensation to it. Was it always like that?”

NO. NO IT WASN’T, AARON. WE ARE GOING TO DIE.

What is going on with this hand soap??

Why is it hot?

Will it ever cool down?

Is it because of the house?

Will we ever really know?

I still want fried chicken.

so much blue

Dawson! omg.

So, his dad died. WHICH, don’t punch me, but I knew it was coming. Only because a few weeks ago I was reading one of those “Where Are They Now” articles about the cast. And in Mitch’s blurb it talked about how he ASKED to be killed off Dawson’s Creek, because apparently he didn’t like where the show was going.

What?!

Uhhhh, they’re in college now, DAD, what did he expect? Did he want all the kids to stay in Capeside and work at the docks? Eat pizza and watch The Golden Girls around the Leery T.V. every Friday night? (which sounds kind of awesome.) No, dude. I mean, I get it, his role isn’t as prominent as it once was. Sure. But I read that he set his negotiating contract REALLY high once they went to college, and was like, “You pay me this, or kill me off.” So they killed him off. HA! Don’t know why I laughed.

Another weird thing – Mitch Leery died at the age of FORTY FIVE. 45! I’m four years away from that exact age, yet I feel like Mitch a) could have been my dad or granddad, and b) was at LEAST in his mid-50s. He looks way older than me, right? Right?? You don’t have to answer.

p.s. when do Joey and Pacey get together?

sis taking photo of gremlins

Let’s talk about candles! Dudes be like, “Out.”

What are your fave (not fav) candles? I need more candles.

Candles candles candles.

I have one FAVORITE favorite, but I don’t burn it very much because I can only order it from England and it takes 33 years to arrive.

And I make a lot of candles, but they’ve all burned out. Just like my soul.

Give me candle inspo!

The end.

Weekend plans?

Mine’s gonna be a GUD’N. A lot of my girlfriends from around the country are making their way to Kansas City today for a Lady Gal Mama Weekend! Also known as, no snotty kids.

But it’s totally a staycation, because instead of piling into one of our homes, we’re going to stay in a swanky hotel on the plaza. We gon’ swiiiiim. We gon’ drink roséeeeeee. We gon’ gruuuuub. We gon’ gaaaaaaaab. We gon’ geeeeeeb. (<– no idea) I’ll be posting at an obnoxious level on Instagram Stories, so follow along if you enjoy torture.

ALSO! Next week I have a fabulous new August mixtape coming for your ear holes, so you only have a few days left to let this one absorb into your brain.

And yes, I started and ended this post with a foot photo. What are you going to do about it?

I try to buy all my candles locally, like at the farmer's market. I just like supporting local and I hope they are more pure than stuff you buy in stores as far as the fragrance and whatever else fills the air when you burn them. But, one commercially made brand I love is made by Nest (think that's the name) but they are pretty pricey. Don't know what's up with your soap. That is very strange! Have a great girls weekend!! Jealous!

My faaaaaaavorite candle scent is Thyme's "Frasier Fir" but I'm a stickler about only burning candles in-season, so I have to wait until the holidays every year to break it out. http://www.thymes.com/Fragrances/Frasier-Fir/

I'm obsessed with candles too. This is my favorite candle EVER! It's pricey, yes. But it burns forever, and I swear I can smell it even when it's not lit. I have about six still in the box, because I'm afraid they'll stop making them and I'll have to go without! https://coteshop.co/products/candle Also love this one. It's clean, it's fresh. It's not super floral-y, which I really appreciate. https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/essential-oils-boxed-candle-fleur-de-sel/ Have a great weekend! Maria

I am a candle fanatic and try different brands all the time. My favorite lately Is this one: https://pfcandleco.com/collections/summer-collection/products/no-21-golden-coast-7-2-oz-soy-candle?variant=11156192581. It smells like summer!

You are correct, taco bell is most definitely more pricey than it used to be. I'm always surprised when I go there and hear the total after I order. Ok. Confession time. I didn't really care all that much when Mitch died. Sorry? Sigh. Bev, you've got a while to go before Joey and Pacey are together again. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I have a Sea Salt Vanilla candle from Target in my office. It's a light scent but really summery and nice. It's probably the first candle I'll have completely burned up in a while. Your weekend sounds much better than mine! I have a hair appointment Saturday and then nothing else planned. Can't wait for your IG stories!

Skip all the pricey fru-fru candles and get the BH&G brand at the Wal-Mart - Tahitian Coconut. Just do it. Also, Taco Bell is now officially a rip off! It would be okay if the quality improved with their price increase but...since when did a 7-layer burrito and a chili cheese burrito (which is on the dollar menu, by the way) cost almost 5 dollars. No drink. Extra, extra hot sauce. Maybe they had to have a price increase due to the amount of free hot sauce we consume. Also, I'm 46 now and look at everyone else my age and wonder why THEY look so old. I thought I was the only one. Thanks for validating my feelings. Happy Friday!

I like the dw home line that Home Goods/TJ Maxx/Marshalls carries. Not all the scents are good but I love the Coconut Lime Verbena and the Peppered Citrus. They come in several sizes. Also just received the Bath and Body Works Home Smoked Vanilla candle and love that one too. Must try the aforementioned Frasier Fir. Have so much fun on your Lady Gal Mama weekend!

Check out the candles at Illuminati Waxworks. They are amazing!

I love me a good candle! Nest candles are me fave (not fav!), but so dang spendy. I bought DW Home candles from home goods that smell delicious and ever since have been buying them online dwhome.com. Also the little grapefruit candles from Trader Joe's are pretty great too. Enjoy your girl power staycation!

I hate cheap candles...I can just tell by the un lit scent it's gonna be bad and headache inducing. I spend extra knowing I'm going to love the scent and it's going to take a long time to run out. I think Anthropologie large glass jar candles are simply the best!

I sure hope your comment is a joke and you're friends with Bev, otherwise... wow. Rude.

Wow. What a horribly negative thing to say. If you don't like the content, don't visit the page. Pretty simple. I'll be looking for your website so we can evaluate your cooking skills and your wild unpredictability.

I have a couple candles from Candlefish, they have atypical scents. I'm sensitive to smells so mostly I just have the little gold tins open to catch whiffs here and there. Excited for the new mix tape. Have fantastic weekend!

candles to consider: Diptique - baies, mimosa or vanille Byredo - Safran, tree house or burning rose Candlefish are also great, not too intense. And the little market have seasonal candles and part of the proceeds go to charity.

My candle obsession lately is Homesick Candles. I have the SoCal candle to smell like home if home still smelled like orange trees and sea salt, and the Kentucky because it had bourbon in the description. I think they're about $30 each, but they burn for ages and ages.
