Friday Flotsam

FREEEDEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Spring flowers in Madison, WI

We’re having our first backyard movie night of the year next weekend!

You know what I just realized? How much I rely on emojis. Isn’t it crazy what those little images have done to our lives?! The communicative impact that a single image of a sun or a movie projector or a leaf or a pool or a unicorn or a plaid lizard can have?

Just kidding about the plaid lizard part.

Anyway. Pretend that after the work weekend ^^ up there, there’s a sun and a movie projector and a leaf and a pool and a unicorn and a plaid lizard.

We’re still back and forth on what kick-off movie we should watch. Last year we hosted two outdoor movie nights, one showing The Goonies, and the other – Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.

HOW DOES ONE COMPETE WITH THAT.

Well, Dirty Dancing, that’s how. But Aaron would file for divorce.

My votes are:

  • Can’t Buy Me Love
  • Wizard of Oz
  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
  • Rear Window
  • Sandlot
  • One Crazy Summer
  • Wet Hot American Summer (but we do have a 10 year-old viewer, so.)
  • Midnight in Paris

What do you think?! (sun, movie projector, leaf, pool, unicorn, plaid lizard)

Kombucha at the Farmer's Market

I need some advice.

NOT THAT KIND.

I need hand lotion/lip balm advice.

So yeah, that kind.

What are your go-to transportable hand lotions and lip balms? Not that lip balms aren’t transportable. They’re tiny and can fit basically anywhere. A jean pocket, a bag pocket, your bra.

I need some on my bedside table.

See, I’m out of my normal handmade beeswax lotion (I know I should just make more), and I’ve LOST ALL OF MY STUPID LIP BALMS. Where do they go!? They’re with the missing socks, I tell you.

But I want to try something new, so hit me up, Jack.

“You jump, I jump, Jack.” <–NAME THAT SHOW. (tv, two girls, crying face, leaf, dancing girl, monkey covering his eyes, plaid lizard)

Bathroom wallpaper at the Graduate Hotel

I have two episodes left of 13 Reasons Why.

And I hear these last two are bruuuutal. Actually, I have a bunch of thoughts on the show, but they’re all on my Instagram Stories if you want my two cents. I’ll do another FINAL thoughts sesh (<–sorry I said sesh just now) once I finish the series, but if you’re interested in my so-far take, go peep it! (also, I’m wearing pleated jeans in the videos, so you’ll have to find a way to forgive me.)

All I know is that after this show, I’m ‘monna be binge watching some frickin’ CARE BEARS.

Pizza at Bella Napoli in Brookside

I’ve had a lot of people lately ask about my house plants. (WE HAVE A LOT.) Would you be interested in a post totally dedicated to what house plants we have, and how to keep them not dead?

Wait!

POLL::::::::

Would you be interested in a post totally dedicated to what house plants we have, and how to keep them not dead? (leaf, plant, gardening girl, sun, sparkle, monkey with hands over his eyes, dancing girl, pool, unicorn, plaid lizard)

Aaron and Nat - le sigh

Weekend plans?

I HAVE TO CLEAN OUT MY PANTRY. (sorry to scream at you) I just need to roll up my sleeves and get in it. Every time I open the door something falls. Something brushes the sides and makes a haunted whispery sound. I’m so nervous to even look at the expiration dates on these dried goods. Usually I thrive on deep cleaning and organization (like the mom in Amelie! you know when she dumps everything out of her red purse, blows in it and puts it all back? That is me.). But this task has me paralyzed. I’ll avoid it ’til the bitter end! And by bitter end I mean tomorrow morning at 9:15 after five cups of coffee.

Just kidding, you guys!

Six cups. (coffee cup, crying face, dancing girl, monkey with hands over his eyes, sun, pool, leaf, unicorn, plaid lizard.)

Burt's Beeswax lip balm! The original vitamin E and peppermint. Buy half a dozen and stash them everywhere. The tinted in Champagne is really pretty and minty too! I would be interested in a plant post.

We are playing La La Land in the backyard as soon as we have a dry weekend evening and Moana for the kids. Rosebud Salve by CO bigelow is both aesthetically appealing, smells great, and gives you a hint of color. Have a great weekend!

House plants! I need guidance. Also on gardening in general. Ferris Bueller or Rear Window would get my vote.

I suggest a John Cusack theme! Show One Crazy Summer and Better Off Dead. Or High Fidelity. Oh! Or Say Anything. I will stop now before I completley embarrass myself. LOVE Burt's Bees. The Pear and Coconut iip balm is fantastic. I also love their colored lip balm for summer. Light and easy to wear and reapply.

Can't buy me love, yes to the plant post and I've recently discovered senegence lip balm (aka lipsense). Don't roll your eyes lol, the balm is amazing!! Softest youngest looking lips ever and your lips don't feel dried out and "addicted" like with other balms. I told my husband that my lips feel like they're rolling around in satin sheets when I have it on. Best way to describe it (wink).

You would LOVE Beautycounter's hand cream! Moisturizes but isn't greasy so you can still catch your kiddos! :) The lip conditioner in peppermint is also pretty fantastic, a staple for sure! All of the products are created with only safe ingredients! http://www.beautycounter.com/krystenschwartz?goto=body-hair%2Fmoisturizers%2Fhand-cream-citrus-mimosa-1.html

Beautycounter's lip conditioners are amazing and (because you know it matters) they are packaged SO BEAUTIFULLY! I love the peppermint myself 'cause it makes my lips feel fresh, but the calendula smells amazing too. And the hand cream is incredible too; smells amazing. Plus it's all safe! I'll link in my comment website so I don't spam up your comments section ;) And you have my email if you have questions!

Yes to house plants! My vote is Sandlot but those are all excellent choices. As for lip balm, I am currently in deep love with Vaseline Lip Therapy mini's in Rosy. You can get them without the tint but I enjoy the little extra color. Besides loving the lip balm they are in mini vaseline tubs which I find adorable and the lid stays on tight. I have them stashed everywhere.

Berts Bees lip balm and Rear Window...where are those sodas from? I love the bottles
  24. Nicole May 19, 2017 at 5:12 pm #
Australian golden lanolin. I'm addicted to lip balm and this is it for me. It's from Australian sheep. You can get it on Amazon under $10 and it lasts forever. It's the only thing that lasts on my lips. It's all natural. It's also good for cracked nipples if your breastfeeding.

Blistex lip balm, the kind in a pot. I've been using it since high school (so 14 years) (it has NOT been 14 years since high school) (No, really, it has). It's a crappy brand name, I feel, but the stuff is amazeballs. Can't live without it.

gilmore girls plantsss. literally cannot go wrong with burts bees. just don't leave them in the car. oh wait, you don't live in Florida? nvm, leave them in the car they'll be fine. burts bees also has this almond hand cream that comes in a pot and its grand. and very natural, if that's your jam. best of luck! oh and also i vote ferris. but its already saturday night now so my vote does not count ;)

Vaseline lip therapy in cocoa butter is the best. I love to use Glysomed Hand Cream at night, I have really dry hands and this is the only thing I have found that helps with that.

I keep it simple. Little Nivea tins of hand cream (in my purse, on my nightstand, in the car, at my desk, etc) and strawberry Carmex. Yes to the plant post!

I recently started using Aquaphor lip balm and it's the best! I've always had dry, peeling lips and this is the first thing I've found that has helped and kept my lips moisturized.

Have you heard of EVER skincare? They have a salve called Smooth and it is super concentrated botanicals with a base of shea butter. I'm an esthetician so my hands are in water constantly and on weeksends in plants! So yes to the plant post and yes to EVER Smooth! https://www.everskin.com/with/heathetmatias

  41. Erin May 25, 2017 at 4:48 pm #
Yes to anything you want to post! (Two hands up) Ok so in my 40's and I'm finally figuring out what I really like as far as products and beauty routines and secrets...we are getting wiser (winky face). Gardeners Therapy by Crabtree & Evelyn...it is so healing after drying out from gardening, smells nice and looks nice anywhere in a terra cotta metal tube. L'Occitane metal tubes of any sort for bag or whatever. Nivea cream in a tub for your feet (yes it's a gigantic beauty secret to sleep w this and socks...voila!)so you aren't one of those with those...eh hem heel issues. Ewwww. Blistex in a tube bc it heals anything in no time and doubles as a rabbit foot to rub and small enough to fit in that tiny pocket in jeans that nobody uses. I do. For my rabbit foot aka blistex. I don't know why I answer your questions at such length?!? I think bc no one asks the questions that you do...you're my new Oprah! lol I quote you all the time and my friends are like who is Bev?! (Winky kissy face)
