Taco Crescent Calzones {Tablespoon Tuesdays}

Come and knock on my doooooooor. I’ve got calzones for youuuuuuuu.

taco calzones

I’m thinking about starting every single post from now on with a song. What do you think?

Don’t even THINK about that X in the upper right hand corner.

Hey! So, a few things, while I have you on this luuuuverly Tuesdee mawnin’.

1) Our garage sale went great! Sold most of the stuff on Saturday, and then about 10am on Sunday morning we vowed never again to have a sale on a Sunday. But I WILL say, getting up at 5am to haul (I didn’t haul anything, dun chew worry), a billion things out into the crisp dawn, parking it in a rocking chair and listening to NPR all morning while overworking my old bank teller/customer service skills was kind of nice! Aaron made some bawd-aw signs to draw folks in, and boyyyyyeeeee did they work. Garage sale people are a different breed, I tell ya. And I know this because, ahem, I am one.

2) I totally just said “folks.”

3) Is it droughty where you are? It’s getting droughty here and it makes my armpits itchy.

4) Uhhhh, so the whole twin crib sitch. What if you have a small nursery and you can’t fit two cribs in it? We’re definitely going to start them in the same crib for a few years. I mean months. But what do you do when they start to sit up and plot out their joint escape? What kind of divider should we put in the crib? Pillows? Barbed wire? A referee?

5) These Taco Crescent Calzones are going to freak you out. Lil’ bit o’ refried black beans, lil’ bit o’ minced meat, loads of cheese, tomatoes and olives. AND they’re wrapped in crescent rolls. CA-RESCENT ROLLS. Glory hallelujah. Here’s the recipe over on the Tablespoons!

6) Would it be frowned upon to watch Magic Mike at a baby shower? A . . . friend wants to know.

I will officially stop lurking and start off with a huge congrats to you on the twinners. I read your beautiful announcement to the blog world and am just so happy for you! I am currently going through the IVF process myself. As for twin+crib situation. my sister just kept her twins in the same crib for the longest time, and they did just fine until it was time to move them to toddler beds.

Oooh, going to have to try these. Maybe my picky toddler will eat them...he tends to like things that are inside of things...our go to these days are quesadillas (with the Ls pronounced -- which is what my husband insists on calling them). And OH congrats on the babies!! I'm usually a lurker, but I couldn't resist commenting. Sounds like you guys had quite a journey and I'm so glad it has followed a happy path for you! I only have one, so no twinsies advice from me, but so, so happy for you! Babies are exciting, terrifiying, loving, frustrating, sweet-smelling, stinky, snuggly, hair-pulling bundles of joy and tears. Never will you image that you will love something so much that will poop on you :) Good luck, I'm happy I found your website and get to see your journey! And eat your tasty recipes! (We're having a dip potluck at work this week and I'm going to make your hot ham and cheese dip...It's sure to be a hit!)

These calzones look amazing, going right to the recipe to make very soon! It's been hot here, this week is the hottest all summer and not so much rain which isn't that fun to try to keep a rooftop garden watered. Wish we could get some rain to help out... !

came for the recipe, staying to give some advice. well not really advice, but what worked for me. my twin girls are 9 (almost 10) and they slept in the same crib (in my room! long story) for over 2 years until we moved to a bigger house and they got toddler mattresses (hey we just moved, couldn't afford beds they wouldn't sleep in for very long!) on the floor. there was no kind of separator or anything, and they never really even pig piled on each other, (their big sister did that when she would climb in there with them!) i do have some stinkin' cute pics of them snuggling though ;) FYI they eventually got a bunk bed so they're off the floor!

I seriously can't stop thinking about how excited I am for you. Would it be inappropriate for me to send you celebratory beer infused cookies?

I'd be mad if you didn't! And I never responded to your comment on my announcement post. My main advice to people who are going through is and are in the never ending sour phase of it (rightly so), is just to LISTEN. Try not to offer too much advice, because no matter what anyone says, it may or may not work, and there's always the chance of another blow. So, cry with them. Hug them. Tell them you're thinking of them and doing baby fertility dances for them. Just be there. That's all they need!

These look awesome! My twins are going to be 3 on Monday and they still are in the same room, probably plotting their escape too. ;) They actually didn't start using their cribs until they were about 6 months old. We had these small FP Newborn Rock n Play Sleepers which are small and they loved them which is perfect if you are tight on space.
    • Kristina July 17, 2013 at 1:02 pm #
Like Jennifer said, get Rock N Play sleepers. They are the most wonderful thing ever. Your life will not be complete without them :) My almost 17 month old still naps in his (he has 3 more pounds to go before he is totally and completely too big for it). He slept in it at night for the first couple months, too. Probably the best baby thing we got.

So I made these for dinner last night....with a bit of an improvisation -- when in the refrigerated pastry section of the grocery store, I must have been distracted by the cinnamon rolls with chocolate frosting (what?!), because I grabbed biscuits instead of crescent rolls. Apparently the face I made when I realized this last night was so funny, it caused my husband to dissolve into a fit of giggles that lasted 15 minutes. And later on that night when he thought of it again. And again this morning. But I digress. After mashing two biscuits together and then flattening them out, they turned out pretty well (if a little biscuit-y, my bad), and I fully intend to try again with crescent rolls. And hallelujah, my son actually ate them! Thanks for a great dinner idea, Bev!

My grandma loves to hold garage sales. I think it is so she has someone besides family to talk their ear off too. She always gets excited about them. I love your article. I love it when they are full of personality and yours totally rocked it. The food looks divine. I will have to give this one a try.

    How about a bunk cribs ; )

The babies will probably do fine together. My grandson are one year apart. For two weeks out of the year they are the same age. They are eight years old, One day Zander and Blazer were talking about being Twins. lol They could not believe any different. Don't get me wrong they are kids they argue and fight each other. But, come bedtime it's all brushed asideand they snuggle up hugged up and sleep like angels. I wouldn't worry, there is a bond there and it will all work out!
