Philly Cheesesteak Pizza {Tablespoon Tuesdays}

So, we’re having a garage sale this weekend. (insert noose emoticon here)

I’ve not had a garage sale since I was like 10 years old, living in Hobbs, New Mexico. And *I* didn’t have it. My parents did. I just remember waking up way later than the grueling 6am start time, stepping out into the hot, dry desert air, looking over at my mom, sitting in her little green lawn chair, holding the money bag in one hand, and her heavily-creamed coffee in the other, smiling at me and mouthing, “school clothes!,” while jingling the loose change my way.

I MISS THE EIGHTIES.

So, I guess it’s my turn to do this. I feel like it’s a mandatory part of adulthood. A rite of passage, per se?

It’s like, if you can’t successfully sell your crap in your own front yard, who are you? What can you do? It’s something to think about, you guys.

But! I need your help. With two things. In order for this sale to be a success, I need your opinions.

First of all, number one. 1) Here we go. Ready, get set, just kidding!

Okay, do you read ads for garage sales online or in the actual real life paper? Because I’m placing an ad on Craig’s List, and in our local paper, but the options for our paper are this many days online, and that many days in print. Or both, or neither or stab stab stab.

What say you?

And number two. 2) What should the ad say?

What about, “Come get my crap.” or, “Everything is seriously like five cents.” or, “If you buy something, I’ll give you a donut.” or, “Garage sale! With special guests Milli Vanilli. But probably not.”

Help a sista out, y’alls. And if you live here, come buy my stuff and have a donut. I’ll even play Milli Vanilli on the Spotify.

Oh! This pizza. It’s a Philly Cheesesteak Pizza. With seared steak and red bells and ‘shrooms and melted provolone. This is basically another mandatory part of adulthood. And childhood, and infanthood. GIT AWN IT. Recipe is in that highlighted linky link.

Oooooo, or what about, “Garage sale! Husband for free.”

Just kidding, Aaron!

I think.

Ordinarily I wouldn't recommend the newspaper for anything, but I think the Garage Sale crowd is the one crowd that still pours over them. I say, in print!

Do ALL the ads, and the ad should just be one of those pictures made of punctuation. PIZZA!!!!!

I had a garage sale a few years ago. It was fairly traumatic, but I made about $800. I WAY oversold it in the ads (I also posted signs around the neighborhood), "Furniture! Electronics! Jewelry! and So Much More!" I fairly certain everyone was disappointed when they arrived. Also, I want this pizza immediately.

I would just put out signs on major intersections directing to your house. Also, add some key items that you are selling in your signs. If it is hot you could add drinks and goodies for sale. I am so going to make this pizza this week!,,

My husband & I have never had a garage sale (the whole strangers on the front lawn business would cause him major angst) so I don't know how you get folks to come, but a promise of a Milli Vanilli appearance would totally get this girl to show up!! ...I'm only partly kidding...

helping my mom with our annual garage sales was my all-time favorite jam! having them as an adult, not so much fun. that said, i've had a few over the years. i've never advertised in the paper, i've stuck to neighborhood signs and craigslist. my turn out is usually decent though not what i ever hope for. perhaps its because i'm not putting an ad in the paper?? anyway, mention any key or desirable items you have. don't worry about hyping it up, if people are disappointed then just tell them someone swooped in early and bought up all the "good" stuff already! ;)

I love garage sales with my parents - mostly because I made a KILLING at my lemonade and cookie stand. A whopping $13 beeeshes!! Dollah Hollah!! Slices of these would probably go over better than my watered down Country Time lemonade, so you can put that in the ad ;)

Good luck on your garage sale. They are a ton of work. But you can make a pretty little penny! Have a great Day

My sister-in-law is the queen of garage sales. I can't even begin to count how many she's had (#justshootmenow). I think she puts an ad in the paper. I know when our neighborhood had one, they were asking everyone to chip in for the newspaper ad. One thing I am pretty certain of, though, is if you have baby items, you should def stress that - those are a BIG hit! Good luck!

I like placing signs at major intersections. There are people that love to get in the car early on Saturday mornings and just look for signs around town. This pizza? Yes. Oh yes.
