I swear all I ever want to do is talk about Gone Girl. I’m 77% through it and I CANNOT DO anything else but read the blasted thang. Talk about a screen clicker.
Get it? Instead of a page turner? Because I’m reading it on an e-reader? And I click the screen? Instead of turn the page?
Yeah my husband started gnawing through his veins too.
Speaking of e-reader, UGH. I’ve been spending roughly 295352342 hours on Etsy looking for a cute Kindle case and I feel like everything is hideous. Bulky, insane designs or just plain wrong. So I’ll get bored with that and move on to refrigerator magnets and then it’s game over. Like, an entire week will pass.
But I’ve narrowed down which magnets I want! Maybe.
Have you started your Christmas shopping and/or wish list yet? Did that just make you throw up in your mouth a little? Me too.
Except for the magnets.
Oh! While I have you, I made Crock Pot Chicken Stock (said like the AFLAAAC commercial) that you should peep.
AND. Tomorrow will be fun. You’ve been warned.

Gone girl was so good! I don’t blame you!
NICE. I need this for when it gets colder, plus my crockpot hasn’t been used since last year, time to dust it off.
I usually wait till the stock chills to take the fat off but a fat separator looks nifty. Thanks for another recipe I can use!!
I’ve been Christmas shopping since July… It’s a problem I have.
I would have never thought to make chicken stock in a crock pot – brilliant!
What a great idea! Love crock potting. Yes, it’s a verb!
I love that you make your own stock. Those jars of it are glowing little jars of glory!
Omgoshh! My husband caught me reading at 4 am, I am 74% through Gone Girl. I can’t put it down, and now I am reading it on my kindle app at my law office while trying to look busy at the same time…since college I have mastered looking busy.
I am never using old chicken parts and boiling my stock again. (This may or may not be because it started freaking my roommate out to see chicken parts in our freezer.) This sounds soooo much easier!
Oh my goodness, I just want to cuddle up with this stock, then make a big ol’ pot of chicken soup, devour the lot of it, then take a delicious long nap. I feel warm and toasty inside just reading this!!
I know homemade stock makes such a difference, but I didn’t want to deal with it previously. Thinking of my crockpot doing the work makes stock sooo much more approachable. Thanks Bev!
I love my Kindle cover – it is a plain jane black but very functional! The front side folds over and doubles as a stand. My love for it might have to do with the fact that I came home from work one day to find it on the counter… a no-special-occasion gift from my boyfriend
Kindle Fire Lightweight MicroShell Folio Case Cover by Marware
You really have me wanting to get Gone Girl but I’m really not good with scary/thriller-type movies or books. My imagination goes crazy!
I love that this can be made in the slow cooker! It makes life so much easier, especially around the holidays!
I want to snuggle those little jars of perfection.
Gone Girl! I think I want to re-read that book. I miss it.
Also, I’ve never made my own chicken stock and I’m scurrrrred. Imma do it, though. I can handle crock pots.
I read that book this summer, I loved it and could not stop recommending it to people.
And its great that you posted chicken stock today because I was just talking about it with my roommate earlier. We both make lots of soups and I have trouble finding chicken stock that isn’t overly steeped with sodium. Yay for Doing it yourself and healthy alternatives!
Homemade is the only way to go!
Woot Woot for crock-pot chicken stock!!
Geesh…guess I’m gonna have to get Gone Girl right after I stop staring at the golden jars of flavor bliss for fall soup bliss.
That’s another book on the ever growing list of must reads.
I can’t wait for you to finish Gone Girl! I want to know your final thoughts.
Oh boy, I need to make some stock as well. Those jars are so pretty! Have a great day. xoxo
Awesome idea to make chicken stock in a crock pot, Bev! Must try!
Can’t wait to try this chicken stock .. just pinned it, and it’s on my to-do list for the weekend! Also .. if you’re just looking for a sleeve-type kindle case, we make some pretty cute ones. We don’t have any in our etsy shop right now but will soon. This may be a silly question, but…does this need to be refrigerated? How long is it good for? Can it be preserved?
Hi, Missy!
It will need to be in the fridge, yes. I’d saaaay it’s good for about a month? I say that because my store bought cartons are usually good for about 3 months. And if you want to freeze them, just leave some room at the top for expansion!
Hope this helps!
I’ve done this and love the results. It’s such a fun and simple homemade item everyone should make.
Who would have thought crock pot for the chicken stock? Perfect!
You are so funny! Chicken stock in the crock as we speak, and Gone Girl was amaaaaaazing! If you get a chance, read Sharp Objects and Dark Places as well. She’s such a great writer! Also, I guess they’re making a movie out of Gone Girl?
